"Come down Mara, I'm not going to hurt you."
"That's what they all say. I refuse to come within your reach. Who are you?"
"I already told you, I am myself. Come down Mara, and stop being stubborn, can you
not hear it in my voice? I am capable of reaching you where you are, so please, come down
from your own free will."
"What is it, exactly, that I am supposed to divine from the sound of a stranger's voice?
Hmm? I do not know you, I do not trust you, I will not go near you. Kaze - can you take
me out of here?"
Kaze dipped slightly in response. Then it began to carry Mara away from the man on
the hillside. He looked up at them, as Kaze's tail remnants blew his hair into his eyes,
playfully obscuring his vision. He sighed, then his sandaled feet dug into the dirt as he
crouched slightly. The man jumped up, shouting a single word at the retreating figures.
Kaze's movement halted immediately, jolting Mara. The man watched her grab futility at
where Kaze's tendrils should have been, unable to prod Kaze into further action. Mara's
eyes widened in fear as she watched him rise up to where she sat in Kaze's embrace,
trapped and unable to run. The man halted his movement a few feet from where Mara sat,
and stood there, perfectly calm, in midair facing her. Then he reached out a hand and
spoke in a softer tone.
"You do know me Mara, stop running and remember. I come from the throne of the King,
and you were there with me. Now please, take my hand. Come down, Mara, and talk with
me for a little while."
