Mara was dimly aware of a something, though her senses told her there was nothing around
her. She blinked her eyes, looking up, around, and down, with no changes to be seen. There

A shiver ran through Mara suddenly, apart from that light, it was suddenly very cold. Not just the absence of the light's heat, but a sense of loneliness as well. Her lips began
parting in a smile, for as terrifying as that King had been, she felt as though she had lost something precious in leaving him. Her chest heaved in the airless nothing, and Mara
didn't even notice she wasn't breathing. Mara jumped as a sound rang out, made all the louder by the previous perfect silence. Her hands started flying towards her ears as she
bent over from the shock of the sound-waves. The hands dulled the sound, and Mara
started counting seconds to see how long it lasted.
109, 110, 111, 112,113.... Why isn't it stopping? 124, 125, 126, 127.... Is it getting louder? What
sort of noise is this?! I can't hear myself think, was I on 138 or 139? Dang it! I can feel the
sound inside my skull. Its so... so... loud... so... hot... long.... Do I know this sound,
no, voice? It's a song! Something is singing! And it feels so alive... Ah! What was that?
