There were a lot of shapes that were moving, both near and far, some of them looking very
human. Others had heads that looked like birds, or lions, or bulls, some didn't have any
visible heads at all. Mara could see quite a few somethings with more than one head,
and there were a few balls of somethings that looked like they were made up of nothing
but wings. It was very crowded, wherever she was. Mara blinked several times looking at
the crowd, at how real they seemed. It was like she had just stepped outside for the first
time, after seeing nothing but paintings all her life. Mara felt like she had spent all her
time inside a fantasy, and was just now seeing life, no, seeing reality.
Mara felt herself flush unconsciously, and glanced down at herself. What sort of thoughts
were those? She wondered. Her eyes stared unseeingly at her knees for a while, and then
her breath caught. She seemed translucent somehow, her body had the same shimmer as a
mirage. Mara could feel her legs in her hands, so she knew she had substance - but she looked like a ghost. She felt unreal, like a shadow, in the middle of this light-filled place.
Mara looked up again, lifting her head this time, and finally strained to see the source of the
light in front of her. She could make out what looked like a seat, with a figure on it, and the
light seemed to flow out of this figure like a shimmery, hot river.
