The Deal

I enter the small cafe. I've seen this place but never been in it. I see the guy who came into the book store across the room and I walk over sitting down. "What do you want?" I ask.

"I think you know why I'm here, Xaria" He says smiling and leaning across the table. He trails a finger over the back of my hand. "We both know why you're avoiding Mihal, the love of your lives"

"You're one of her minions" I say tensing. The guy chuckles and trails his finger over the back of my hand again. Suddenly he yelps and pulls his burnt finger back with a scowl. He sighs and rests back.

"I'm not her minion. I'm more her assistant. The name's Alex. She's sent me here to offer you a deal" He says.

"What deal?" I whisper but I almost know and his smile confirms my surspisions. I watch as he takes my hand again, threading his fingers through mine and I don't stop him.

"You break Mihal's heart and both of you walk away alive... well, you walk away alive and Mihal won't mourn you for the rest of enternity" Alex says with a chuckle. He tightens his grip on my hand and I still do nothing.

"And how do I do that?" I whisper.

"Hook up with me till he finally resorts to going to see her" He smiles and kisses my knuckle. "It's simple"

"I'm going to hurt, Mihal, though" I whisper tears falling. Alex wipes them away with the thumb of his spare hand.

"Hey, don't cry now" He says with a frown. "Things aren't that bad.... will you except the deal?"

"Yes" I choke out. He pulls me to my feet and out of the cafe. "Wait, where are we going?"

"Back to the book store" he says. I stop automatically and he turns to face me. "What? We have to start right away and I guess he wasn't convinced by you earlier"

I nod and he begins to pull me along again. Is what I'm doing right? I don't know if it is but... we arrive at the bookstore and I enter led by Alex. I'm frightened as I do. What will be Mihal's reaction? What if I can't do this? But I'm gonna have to. To keep us both safe.... I'm gonna have to.

"Xaria? What's going on?" Mihal asks.

"Oh, Mihal this is Alex... he's, uh, a close friend" I mutter.

"Very close" Alex chuckles leaning down and kissing me. I'm shocked but I go along with it and return my gaze to the floor once Alex pulls away. God, why does it have to hurt so bad? Why does the best way have to hurt so much?

"I... I don't understand. I thought you said- You never said you were seeing someone" Mihal stutters. I feel like my heart is cracking.

"Oh, we only started dating today. She came to me in a flurry of tears and I guess, well, we just clicked" Alex smiles and slips his arm round my waist. I force myself not to shift uncomfortably. All this isn't right, it doesn't feel right, its not what I want but unfortunately I can't have what I want.

"So that's how it is?" Mihal asks. "I've been replaced?"

"I said I didn't want to be with you, Mihal" I hear my voice as just a robotic tone and hear small cracks as well as I speak. A tear fall from my eyes and I swear everyone heard it hit the floor. Alex look at me with a worried expression and pulls me to him.

"Oh, sweety, shh" He says loud enough for Mihal to hear.

"Don't talk to her like that" he said angrily. "And don't touch her" He moves in to push Alex away from me. I let him but the moment Alex has the chance he pushes Mihal away and pulls me back to him.

"You don't know who you are messing with" he hisses, pulling himself up to his full height.

The End
