Pious' fist rammed into my chest, knocking the wind out of me and almost breaking my ribs. His breathing was short and fast, and he was snarling under his breath. I think my stubborn refusal to comply with his plan was beginning to annoy him.

Good. Because I have no intention of complying with him.

"For the last time," he hissed angrily, "tell me who you are and what you are doing here!"

I say nothing, I just glare in the direction from which Pious' voice is coming from. He hisses and starts pacing the room, I hear his feet pounding against the floor. He mutters something about Databases and starts talking very rapidly under his breath.

These interrogation sessions had been going on ever since Pious had first locked me up in this room. He seemed determined to get information out of me. But I wasn't exactly being compliant.

This was exactly why Pious was getting increasingly irritated. He'd already had his goons look me up on the system to see who I was. Predictably, they found nothing. Mother must have deleted all my information when I "disappeared."

As a result, Pious was trying to beat what he wanted to hear out of me. Without any success. He'd bribed, beaten and even blackmailed me, always trying to force me into telling him who I was and why I was here.

The only replies he'd gotten out of me were insults that I snarled at him between my teeth.

In fact, his plan seemed to be working in reverse. In his frustration, Pious had started hissing things about some sort of plan, and how my un-cooperative silence was slowing things down. He also said things about Father and Mother, as well as two other beings called Brother and Sister. Slowly, steadily, a picture was beginning to form in my mind.

Pious was plotting something, something to do who was in control of the Colony.

And I had a feeling the Cold Gods were involved...
