Dreams of Jackie
Ah, Jackie Rodriguez, she was the one. Shakespeare could not describe her in a poem. The best botanist in the world could not plant a more beautiful flower. Michelangelo could not have sculpted a more perfect figure.
I first got the idea on a Friday night. The next day of class, I would gather up the nerve to ask her to the school dance. I had it all planned out. I would meet her during lunch while she was talking to her group of friends. I would ask to have a private word with her. It was flawless.
That night I fell soundly asleep with the thought of Jackie dancing by my side…
The next morning I got out of bed and went to my classes as usual. Every minute stretched out to an eternity as the hand on the clock struck closer and closer to 12. I couldn’t focus on my work, I was so nervous.
Finally, 12 o’clock came around and the bell rang. It was time.
I walked out to the quad, and saw her standing by her friends, her beautiful hair shining in the sunlight. I tapped her on the shoulder and asked if I could have a private word. As she stepped away from her circle of friends, one of her friends accidentally dropped a glass bottle of Mountain Dew, which shattered on the ground, its fluorescent green contents splashing all over the concrete. Ignoring this, I looked Jackie right in the eye and asked, “Jackie will you go to the dance with me?”
But before I had finished speaking, someone standing nearby punched me in the stomach and I keeled over, the wind knocked out of me.
“Ahhhhhh! “ I sat up in my bed, sweating, and instantly placed my hand on my belly. It was fine. I let out a deep sigh. It was just a dream.
I got out of bed and spent the rest of the day at the beach with some friends. It was a beautiful Saturday, I only wished Jackie was there to enjoy it with me. As the sun was setting and we got back into our cars, I was exhausted. When I got home, I immediately flopped onto my bed and fell asleep to the same dream I had the night before…
