Prologue
Behold and bow before my might, for
I am Akatosh, The Chief of the Eight and One, supreme head of the divines, the
all father to dragons, and the very keeper of time!
It is I who have the great honor of being muse to the
masterwork of fate and history, yet it is also I whom bears the title of grand
narrator, the narrator whom you have summoned.
And so I have come to your beckoning, mortal. For I knew
you would summon me, just as I knew you would beseech me to tell you the tale
of the mightiest of heroes.
And so I ask you, lend me your attention, and I will tell
you a grandiose tale of destiny, in the time before the Oblivion Crisis, before
the Nerevarine, before the very Elder Scrolls themselves. For this is the tale
of Talos the Dragonborn!
This tale begins in a land uncreated at the time. I take you to a time when the universe was still new. We divines had existed with our separate realms, one for each divine, as long as we could remember, but all that existed had been before.
Nothing had ever been created, until Lorkhan, grand inventor amongst the divines, proposed to all of us the idea to create a new realm, a mortal realm. The divines who opposed this were known as Daedra, and are generally considered evil. Those who supported Lorkhan, myself included, were known asAedra and are held to be benefactors to mortals.
We constructed this realm of reality and named it Nirn. The center was a planet, Mundus, and upon Mundus were four continents which would one day contain mortals. But then, Lorkhan decieved us, binding several Aedra to this new realm.
The greatest of us retained our divinity, but were forever bound to Nirn. As punishment, Lorkhan was slain, but not destroyed, and his heart was cast down into the fires of Red Mountain.
After this, we eight continued to create mortals. There were three races to begin: the mer, or “elves” of Aldmer, the men, or Nords of Atmora, and the “wild races”,or Akavir, of the Akavir continent. All three set their sights on the small continent of Tamriel.
The first to explore it were the Akavir. They ventured into the swamps, jungles, and deserts of Southern Tamriel. They evolved into two races destined to inhabit Tamriel: the reptilian Argonians and the feline Khajiit.
Before the Akavir could press forward, the Elves began colonization in the central areas of Tamriel. They too divided into the Bosmer, or wood elves, and the magical elves of the Dwemer, Chimer, Falmer and Ayleid. All but the Chimer and Bosmer were destroyed and left behind little more than ruins.
The chimer, once a people of beauty, were constantly cursed by the Aedra for their love of Daedra and ancestral worship. Those whom worshipped their ancestors were corrupted into the Dunmer, or dark elves. Those whom worshipped the daedra were turned to Orsimer, or Orcs.
The Bosmer, people of the forest and huntsman by nature, changed little, except for developing a form of tribal aristocracy.
After the majority of elves had died out, Humans began to colonize the northern section, known as Skyrim. Initial contact with the elves led to bitter fighting and caused the humans temporary slavery. When the elves grew weak, men rebelled, and created their own empire in Skyrim. Two empires came and passed over the next few centuries. And so the story of Talos begins with his departure from Atmora to Skyrim, as the second empire of man crumbles, and a destiny will be fulfilled beyond the wildest dreams of young Talos.
