Charles Haast
Charles Haast was the epitome of success. He had started his own business at the age of twenty, and had done so well with it that he was now he second richest person on the planet, at only thirty-five.
He had received many offers to sell his company at various stages for lucrative sums, but he had held out and worked wonders with it himself, making far more money than any other company could offer him. Now he was buying their companies; left, right, and centre.
And to top it all off, he was even popular with the public. He was a believer in locally manufacturing products, but not so much so that he stuck solely to it. He was adamant about having the lowest possible emissions, and often donated large sums of money to environmental and humanitarian causes.
He had a beautiful wife that had been with him since before all of his success and truly loved him, and a young son that would undoubtedly follow in his father''s footsteps.
But there was one thing Charles didn't have. Parents.
He had been orphaned at birth, and had never known who his parents were, or even if they were alive. He had spent his entire young life promising himself he would find them some day, but he had been caught up in his success and lost sight of his goal.
However, after one of his wife's parents died, he decided it was time to do something about that. So he hired the world's most illustrious private investigation firms to do whatever they could to find his parents.
His sudden obsession with the case alienated him from his family, and his wife left him 'to get his act together', bringing their child with her. Charles was devastated, but also stubborn. He went on.
After years of investigating, they had narrowed it down to two possible sets of parents; one was a kindly farmer and his wife in Montana, and the other was James and Maria Levista, co-owners of Levista Incorporated, ones of the largest businesses Charles didn't own, and the closest thing he had to a rival.
If Charles was born of the Levista's, the impact on both of their businesses would be enormous, and likely negative. Many felt that it could even ruin his career.
For a long time he was hesitant to find out for sure which were truly his parents, but he eventually caved and convinced both parties to be DNA tested. The world held its breath.
The next morning's paper told the tragic tale of Charles' suicide after he had heard the results. Losing everything in such a short time had pushed him off the edge, and he had jumped from a bridge, dying instantly.
The headline of the story? "Haast a Levista Baby"
