"Fear. That is what we live with. And we live with it everyday. Only in Death are we freed from it." - Hyuga Neji, Naruto
I had lost the will to speak. I... I didn't know what to do.
I hadn't anticipated that such a thing would happen. Any moment now, I felt I would break down and go crazy. It was all too real to be forgotten, what happened just now kept replaying itself on my mind over and over. I let my fingers run through my hair and let out a frustrated sigh.
The man still wept tears, his eyes narrowed as he turned to look at me. "You... You're... You're bleeding..." he said in a soft voice.
Instinctively, I looked at my chest. My eyes widened when I saw how blood started to seep through my shirt. Out of nowhere, I felt a sharp stabbing pain where the blood was continually flowing.
"AAAAAAAGH!!" I shouted, it was like every single fiber of my body was being torn apart. I wasn't that tolerant when it comes to pain, much less when it came to these kinds of things.
It never occurred to me that I got hurt. Actually, I didn't remember being hit at all. I just stood there like some stupid stalker and watched what happened.
And then I felt something plunge through my chest, almost as if something sharp had stuck itself through me. This time, the pain I felt was tenfold than just a few seconds ago. I coughed a lot of blood but amazingly, i wasn't dying at all!
I heard the book drop on the floor and instantly, all the blood and pain I experienced went away. The weird thing was, the book wasn't in my hand when it fell, i clearly remembered that the mysterious girl was holding it before she died.
A thought struck me: What happened to her was happening to me.
I snapped back to my senses when I saw the man carrying her dead daughter (or at least i think she is his daughter.) on his back. "I have no purpose now, I... have failed as her mother's husband, her protector and as her father. I have no one, nowhere to go and nowhere to do. Might as well be with them now." he said as held the gun and pointed it at his head.
My thoughts stirred up, I felt weird and then I started to speak again.
"Go ahead and be emo all you want, then your daughter's life will be wasted for nothing. She tried to protect everyone here, including you! and then you go around killing yourself? That's just selfish." I exclaimed rather loudly.
I covered my mouth, realizing what I just said. It was as if another person spoke from me.
His eyes locked onto me now. I thought that he was gonna shift from shooting his head to mine. I visualized myself being shot many times as I come to join the victims of the monster incident in their death. I officially felt I now had a newly acquired bullet phobia or gun phobia, or whatever objects that can send me to my demise.
He walked closer. I felt my whole body become frozen in fear. I closed my eyes, still unsure of what would happen next. He put an arm on my shoulder and breathed deeply as he stared on the floor with his glassy eyes.
"You're right. " he said.
"W-what?!" I stuttered.
"I said you're right. Thank you for knocking me back to my senses. I owe you my life now." he said as he gave a weak smile.
"You mean... you're not gonna shoot my brains off?" I said in disbelief.
"Don't be stupid, kiddo. I don't kill people who I owe favors to." He said as he gave out a slight chuckle.
He kinda reminded me of my deceased older brother when he said "kiddo", nevertheless, I made a mental note that I'd whack his head if I get his guns away from him.
"Take that book with you and always keep it safe. Whenever you need me, just call. The name's Dominik." he said, waiting for me to say my name too.
"Ermm. Takenaga Kyoshiro." I said sheepishly. "Uhm. Mr. Dominik?"
"What is it, kid?" he asked.
"Where are you gonna go now? I know you're practically homeless at the moment. I live in apartment and I think you could probably take up one of the rooms there." I said.
Dominik's eyes somewhat glinted. I knew he would reject my offer. But as soon as I was gonna speak again, he held his gun tight and started talking once more.
"It seems that I forgot what my daughter told me before this all happened. She said that after she would give the book to the next sage, her life would be in danger." Dominik said.
Sage? why the heck would I want to be a sage? I'm still in high school!
"W-What exactly do you mean?" I asked, partly confused by his statement.
"The lives of the people, you are the one to protect them now. You have the power." he said calmly.
I was the bearer and heir of this curse? I was next in line to prevent these kinds of things from happening? Screw unexpected turn of events in my oh-so wonderful life.
Whether or not I choose to decline the power handed onto me, I knew I had no choice. Hey, if you try and watch shows about these things, you really had no choice. Right then and there, the book flew by itself and in a blink of an eye was now in my hands.
"Okay. It'll take some time to get used to things like this." I said with a worried look on my face.
"Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it." he smirked.
"What power does your daughter have anyway?" I asked, wanting to know more about my so-called powers.
"Hal had a power limited only to those of the Sage bloodline. She had the power to make anything she says come true. But it has limits, she told me some words require a lot of energy, or can even kill you if you aren't careful with it." Dominik explained.
I looked around and saw the dead people. I knew I didn't have much power to bring them back. Heck, I didn't even know how to use my newfound abilities.
As I scanned the area which was reduced nothing more into ruins, bent metal, charred seats and a good view of the outside, I wondered why the train was still moving.
"Dominik, don't you think it's weird that the train's still moving and the train operator is still unaware?" I said, biting my lip. I felt another surge of fear engulf me.
"Not really. And I hope you got at least some little fighting skill in you, cause this brawl's got a round two and you're fighting with me." Dominik said with teasing look in his face.
"Stupid book. Why me of all people?!" I shouted.
This is definitely gonna be a long evening....
