Gravediggers

How long have I been down here?
My body has no cycles,
And so time does not exist.
I've been waiting for the rain
But I guess it's just too soft,
Too light for me to feel or hear
This far beneath the surface
Nothing out there reaches me
I only have my thoughts
That, and the occasional vibration
The faintest little rumble in the ground
From one direction...
I can only assume it's the gravediggers
Burrowing down into my world
Preparing a bed for my newest neighbor
Could it be another little girl?
I wonder if they all keep thinking,
Like me...
Or is it because I was murdered
That I am unable to sleep?
I don't know how long I've been down here
I just keep counting the graves
Seventeen so far
In my immediate vicinity
