Bryan's wife, Claudia, a tall woman with short, straight, close cut red hair accompanied Deputy Max Bradshaw, a tall, balding man of about 40 to the mortuary to identify her husband. Once there, she tried to keep her voice steady as she confirmed that the dead man was indeed her husband. Max looked at her, not really knowing what to say.
"What kind of monster would do this?" Claudia's voice broke and the tears rained from her eyes. Max squeezed her shoulder but made no reply. None was needed. There was a few minutes silence.
"Would you like some time alone with him?" asked Max kindly. Claudia nodded. "I'll be just outside." Max left, closing the door quietly.
"Tanya, I think you should question the deceased's wife. You have more of a knack there than I do". Jack put the report in the filing cabinet.
"What are you doing to do Sherrif?"
"I'm going to head over to the job centre and question his colleagues." He looked at his watch. "We can compare notes after lunch. Deal?"
After about ten minutes or so, Claudia left the room to find Max waiting for her.
"If you are up to it, I'll escort you to the interview room. Chief Deputy Blackburn will need to question you about your husband."
"Of course". Claudia seemed a little stronger now. She followed Max to the interview room where Tanya was waiting for her. Tanya gave her an encouraging smile, asking her to take her time and that this was just routine questioning which would she hoped help them to find the person who had done this.
"Sherrif Jack Hawkins." Jack showed his ID to the receptionist. "I am here about the murder of one of the employees.
"Of course Sir. Hold on, I will fetch the manager".
The receptionist went away while Jack absent mindedly tapped his foot on the floor. He later returned with another man.
"Sherrif, I'm Jeremy Howard. Would you like to come up to my office? By the way would you prefer the lift or the stairs?"
