Chapter 10Mature

Chapter 10

James and Helen went into the library. There appeared to be some kind of club going on. They went up to a woman with long straight dark hair.

"Detective Inspector Peraide. This is Segreant Fairfax. We need a word with Eadric."

The woman went over to where Eadric was helping a Year Seven with Maths and offered to take over while Eadric talked to the police.

"Thanks Mrs Green". He smiled and stood up. He looked at the Year Seven. "Sorry about this. I'll be back as soon as I can".

He led the police to an empty table. "What can I do for you?"

"We wondered if you saw or heard anything the evening Judith Talbot was abducted?"

Eadric shook his head. "I'm afraid not. I would have contacted you if I had."

"Did you know her? I mean was she one of your teachers?"

"She taught me Science in Year Seven and..." he hesitated.

"Yes?" James asked leaning forwards.

Eadric lowered his voice. "I don't really want anyone in the school to know but she once lived next door to me."

"Yes. She moved a year or so ago though."

Eadric shrugged. "Search me."

"There's nothing more you can tell us?"

Eadric shook his head.

"Okay, we'll not take up any more of your time. What kind of club is this by the way?"

"Oh this is homework club. A bunch of us sixth formers help the Year Sevens with their homework once a week."

James nodded and watched Eadric go back.

"That's interesting" Helen said in a low voice.

"Yes, it's the first connection we have between one of the victims and a student."

Oliver Kent looked very tired and worn as he sat in the chair behind his desk in his office.

"Two kidnaps in my school. Two members of staff murdered. Still, I suppose Mary Evron was a educational psychologist, not a proper teacher. Does that make her a member of staff? I don't know."

"You saw or heard nothing on the day of the abduction?"

"No, but then I wasn't in the Science Block. I was here in my office and, this is a really large school you know."

"Can you think of any possible connection between Mary Evron and Judith Talbot? Anything at all?"

Oliver thought. "No, no I can't. If you like I can see if I can locate any files on the students Mary was helping here but I'm wary of doing that - confidentiality you know."

"This is a murder investigation" James reminded him.

Oliver looked at him. "Okay. You can ask my secretary to locate them. I can't suggest anything else."

James stood up. "Thank you. You've been very helpful."
