Chapter One – The Guy

The day was bright…the night was dark…the end, was near! I was only young, 182 I think. My friends would laugh…the things I said, they didn’t believe. It was all but a matter of time before they found out the truth…before they believed everything that I had told them. They were growing, getting taller, increasing in age, becoming more mature…and I, I was staying the same…young! But anyway, I’ll tell you from the start.

I was 15…a mere mortal at this point…and I wanted something new. I hated my life, I hated my friends…I hated everything about the world. The way people were treated, the way things were turning out…everything always good vs. evil…and the evil always won!

It was then that I started reading books, books about vampires. I was intrigued at the stuff these ‘creatures’ could do. I wanted to study more so I started reading more books, looking online and researching. I did so until I was around the age of 18. Then, one day…began the strangest journey of my life…and yes, it was a journey!

I was walking down an alleyway, reading one of my vampire books…I was on my way to the theatre to see a performance on werewolves…and this guy, this guy just randomly came from nowhere and grabbed the book I was reading, and threw it to the ground.

I was annoyed at the guy…I couldn’t see his face, he was wearing black clothes. A top hat, a long black cloak that just about draped along the floor, black trousers and a pair of black boots…the laces undone. It was very dark, raining too. I suppose you could say it was the typical night for a vampire to be out and about. I didn’t think at the time, that he could be such a thing…I didn’t think at the time that such a thing even existed!

“Do you believe this rubbish?” the man said to me in his deep voice as I shivered.

“No…I, well yes…but no. I read it because I’d like it to be true…but I doubt it is.” I replied…in a quick tone…I bet he could tell there was fear in my voice.

“Good. You shouldn’t believe it!” the man replied back…in a sort of, forceful way.

“Why not?” I asked him, as he started to take off his top hat and bow down to me.

“Because, Thomas…I am a vampire, I know everything about our species…and that book, almost all the books you have read…they are all lies!” the man replied, now with his hat fully off and his long, black…greasy hair dangling down before him. He looked up, his eyes were red…I was startled. I still couldn’t see the rest of his face but I was startled!

“Don’t be afraid Thomas…all will become clear…just let me explain, will you let me explain?” the man asked, still bowing down and looking at me with his top hat off and his long, black…greasy hair drooping down.

“Yes.” I said promptly, still scared out of my wits…stepping back now as he started to lift up his back and stand upright. He put the top hat back onto his head and began to walk me over to a door at the side of the alley. I couldn’t run away, it was like my body wouldn’t let me…like I actually wanted to go into the building!

As we went through the door…it was pitch black, but as I entered and he shut the door behind us he turned on the light switch which only lit a very, very dim light above us. The room was very small, had no exits except the door we had just came through and consisted of a wooden table and two chairs also made out of wood.

The guy pulled a chair out and made a gesture as if he wanted me to sit…so I sat. He sat on the chair beside me and took his top hat off, placing it on the table. Then, he looked at me…I jumped, and gasped. I suppose I didn’t believe him when he told me he was a vampire, but the red eyes…the fangs and the scars on his face now proved it.

“Thomas…those books…they are lies because, after all, how would anyone know what a vampire can do…if no one has claimed to have ever seen or fought a vampire?” he said to me…looking at me in the eyes. I didn’t even think to ask him how he knew my name.

“You have a point…but if no one has fought you then how do you live?” I replied… stupidly.

“Because Thomas, we are vampires…silent killers, we are never seen or heard so therefore how can we have been fought?” he answered.

“If you are never seen…why have you shown yourself to me?” I asked…at the time, I thought it was a great question with no possible answer.

“Because Thomas, I have chosen you!” he replied, I began to feel unwell.

“Chosen me for what?” I asked him.

“To become the holder of the new curse I have created.” he said. A broad smile on his face now, I smiled too but mine was more of a sarcastic smile…his, was just scary.

“You’re kidding me right…who are you, I mean come on? It’s not even Halloween yet and you’re dressed up!” was my next question…I think he sort of got annoyed with me at this point.

“THOMAS…I am not dressed up for Halloween, I am NOT a mere mortal, I am NOT your imagination I AM A VAMPIRE, and I am NOT kidding you because everything I say is the truth because I hold the curse of truth Thomas…the curse of TRUTH!” he said, getting slightly aggressive.

“Ok…I think I’m starting to believe you now,” I said to him, still as scared as anything. “But…what are all these curses? I don’t want a curse!” I continued to say to him.

“No Thomas, you are not given a curse…you have to look after the curse…you will be the guarder of the curse…only you will have a special ability…for example, the curse I protect is the curse of only telling the truth, my ability is to lie incredibly well. Your curse, the curse of the vampire coin, allows you to determine people’s future…your ability will be to see the future.” he replied back to me…and at this stage, I began to smile…I began to feel more comfortable with this guy, even though I didn’t know who he was!

“Wow…so this is really real then huh? Well…then if you don’t mind me asking, who are you exactly?” I said to him, I had to know the answer at some point.

“I can not tell you Thomas, until you accept my next offer.” he said. Obviously…now was not the time!

“What…is this ‘offer’ you speak of?” I said…trying to sound smart and I think I pulled it off.

“The offer, Thomas, to join us.” he replied slowly, deeply…smiling towards the end.

“Join…you? Meaning…” yes…ok, maybe I wasn’t sounding as smart at this point.

“Joining us…meaning, Thomas, becoming a Vampire.” he said, now with an even broader smile on his face. My smile also broadened. I realized that this could be my chance to leave the horrid, boring world behind of good vs. evil…and become evil its self…always winning!

“YES!” I shouted with joy, jumping off out of my chair and then sitting back down again in a reasonable manner, trying not to make myself look too childish and giddy.

“Excellent, I knew you would accept.” he said, with an even larger grin on his face now.
