Storm clouds surrounded the apartment building. Rain continued to pour, and it was so heavy that if someone looked out the window they wouldn't be able to see the building next door. But that didn't bother most people because most people living in this particular apartment building didn't even look out the window or even know that there were buildings next door. This apartment building had some sort hypnotizing quality to it that mesmerized most renters, and especially Violet and Justin, who were now lying in bed.
"Am I dreaming? I hope I am" Justin whispered.
"I had to wash the red off of me" Violet said. "There was so much."
"I'm sorry for the things I've done."
"Everybody knows. It's no secret."
"It's after midnight." Justin started to shake. He had six layers of blankets on him and he knew he shouldn't be cold, and he wasn't, but he was shaking uncontrollably.
"When is the last time you've actually left the apartment building, Justin?"
Some sort of feeling washed over him. It covered him completely and he knew he'd feel it for the rest of his life. "You left the apartment building and it's been bothering me because I haven't been able to figure out why. But now I know why."
Violet started to laugh hysterically. She laughed until her sides hurt and she felt like she would crack a rib. Tears streamed down her face and she managed to say in between laughs "You'll never leave this room again."
