Viva La Vida

One Minute I held the key

Next the walls were closed on me.

And I discovered that my castle stands

Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand.

For some reason I can't explain,

Once you go there was never,

Never an honest word...

The room shook while Matt watched as Karissa ran to the wall that was located on the far right of the room. Her arms and fingers looked to be working furiously, as if punching numbers into a keypad. Another secret door had opened and she rushed inside, signaling for he and Jordan to do the same.

The door slid shut.

The lock clicking into place.

“What in the world is going on?!” Matt bellowed.

“I can't explain right now!” Karissa hissed, moving further into the hallway they had just entered. She took quick steps, that only quickened when she thought about what was going on.

The alarm faded as the traversed farther and farther into the darkness of the tunnel, soon the only sounds that could be heard were their shallow breathing. Soon it opened up to a small room.

Karissa motioned for Jordan to take a seat on the lone chair in the room, she found a wall to lean against. Matt couldn't take it anymore, he pounced on her, trapping her against the wall, glaring into her eyes.

“Now, since we're 'safe',” he spat, “If you can even call it that. What is going on? Why was Brandy taken? Why was Jordan shot? And how in the world did we get caught up in all of this!?” he was breathing heavy and didn't have a clue what was going on. He was scared, more afraid then he'd ever been in his life.

“They're here. The people who took Brandy.” Karissa looked worn out, she licked her lips, they were suddenly very dry.

“And who are... 'they'?” Jordan asked from behind them, motioning for Matt to back off.

Karissa looked at the two men in front of her. She sighed heavily, running a shaky hand through her hair. She looked Matt directly in his eyes, it did funny things to his breathing patterns.

“Look, I'm not one to break promises.” She quickly continued before Matt had a chance to explode at her again, “But seeing how there is no other choice, I have one thing to ask you.”

“And what's that?” Jordan and Matt asked at the same time.

“Your lives will never be the same if you come with me, if you let me help you guys stay alive. Are you ready for that?”

“Are we ready? There are people chasing us who we've never met before and you're the only person who can help us. You make it seem like we have some other choice.” Matt felt a hand on his shoulder and saw Jordan standing and shaking his head at him to stop.

Jordan was right, Matt had to keep his cool. He nodded towards Karissa and smiled weakly.

"This is not how I planned this night would end up..." Matt thought.

“Okay.” She nodded and braced herself before she opened her mouth and began to speak.

Matt knew that tonight was the night he should have stayed away from women.

The End
