“Will?” I whispered.

“Yeah?” he replied.

“Lead the way out.”

He slid past me and turned down some corridors I hadn’t even seen. There was a crash and dust fell from the ceiling. We stopped and shared a worried look. We carried on, faster this time. Footsteps seemed to come towards us, running. It wasn’t just one person, there were many. I looked ahead, over Will’s shoulder.

Phoenix, Bladen, Cordelia and a group of others were running towards us. Bladen was about to take Will down with his fist. I jumped past Will and stood in front of him.

“No!” I shouted. Everyone stopped suddenly, surprised by my sudden appearance.

“Vein?” asked Bladen.

“Yes, hello!”

“Thank God you’re okay.”

Phoenix moved forward and went to hug me. I stepped back. He looked hurt, but I didn’t care. I moved towards Cordy, who took my hand. We hurried away, with Bladen and Phoenix in front. I looked back at Will. He smiled sadly, turned around and walked back the way we’d come.

We emerged from the underground tunnels into a larger room. Almost everyone else was gathered there, stood among the knocked out and dead werewolves. Faron turned and smiled, relieved to see me alive I guess. Cordelia went over to talk to Spike. Phoenix came over.

“Why wouldn’t you let me hug me earlier?” he asked.

He went to take my hand. I flinched away. “Don’t touch me,” I hissed.

“Why? Why are you acting like this?” he demanded.

“I saw you with Fai.”

“How long?”

“We used to date about ten years ago. We’ve been on and off since then,” he said.

“Earlier you were sad about me dying my hair. Next thing I know, you’ve got your hands all over her and you’re feeding from her breasts,” I said poisonously. “This is over. You can crawl back to Fai now. Fuck you.”

I pushed past him and walked out of the large room into the street. It was nearing dawn. I rushed back down the streets, anxious to get home before the sun rose.

“Vein, wait!” shouted Faron from behind me. I stopped.

“What?” I asked.

“Are you alright?”

“What do you think? Leave me alone, I just want to get home.”

He grabbed my hand and suddenly we were home. I walked away from him and up the stairs. He bounded after me. He pulled me into his room and locked the door.

“You’re not leaving until you tell me what happened,” he said.

I dropped onto the bed and started crying. He sat next to me and put an arm around my shoulders. I rested my head on his shoulder and told him everything that had happened, from going downstairs and seeing Phoenix and Fai, to when they rescued me, though I didn't mention kissing Will. He sat patiently, just listening to me.

When I was finished, he took me in his arms and pulled me onto his lap. He kissed my cheek and stroked my hair. I don’t remember falling asleep.

The End
