The River To Drown Your Sorrows
I stood there like an idiot waiting for his response, but he still seemed paralyzed. I started counting the seconds, reassuring myself that I could leave after thirty. 1...2... Breathe..3...4... Breathe..
..Thirty. I let out a small sigh, and turned around to leave, when suddenly, he stood up to face me. “Do you mean it?” he asked. “Yes. I really do.” I replied.
“Well, that’s not fair. You know how much I loved you, more than anyone else. I have waited so long to hear those words, but I already…”
He didn’t have to finish his sentence, because I knew exactly what he was going to say.
Knowing it would hurt too much to hear him say the word girlfriend, and not mean me, I cut him short. “It’s ok..” was all I managed to get out.
That was it. I turned around and started walking in any direction away from him. Soon, my walk turned into a run, and then to a sprint. When I finally stopped, gasping for air, the sun had set and it was starting to rain.
