Chapter 12 - Onward
“How much further?” Moggins moaned as he started to hunch from all the walking.
“Only about ten minutes.” Red Tail replied as he marched forward at the front of the group.
“Thirty seconds, actually.” Lilly said rather smug. Red Tail stopped walking and slowly turned his head round to look at Lilly, with a frown on his face.
“Don’t frown so much, you’ll get wrinkles” Lilly joked as she and everyone else stopped walking too. Henry was on her shoulder, giggling.
“Ten. Minutes.” Red Tail said with a harsh tone.
“Nope, thirty seconds.” Lilly replied, again with a smug face.
“Oh really? What makes you so sure?” Red Tail said as he turned round and folded his arms, now with a smug look on his face which scared Henry and made him stop giggling.
“I know these woods like the back of my hand, remember. See that big old tree over there that’s slightly darker than the others?” Lilly said as she pointed ahead.
“Yes…” Red Tail said as he followed her pointed finger.
“Well trust me, as soon as we pass that tree and turn left the heavens will open. Thirty seconds.” She said back to him rather smug as his face went back to a frown. Then she started walking and everyone followed, even Red Tail.
As they walked you could hear every single step, every single twig that broke under their feet and every single number Red Tail whispered out loud as he counted down from thirty.
“Five… Four… Three…” Red Tail whispered, just as they passed the tree and turned left down a slightly wider path made of gravel.
“Two…” he continued, and just before he could say the next number the leaves above them disappeared. It was magical. It was just like the trees had moved aside to let the sun shine down. As well as the heavy rain that was now falling onto them.
“See, the heavens have opened!” Lilly shouted over the high wind.
“Did you know it was going to be raining!?” Red Tail shouted at Lilly.
“How on this planet could she have known that, Red Tail!?” Moggins shouted back to him.
“Yes! I did!” Lilly shouted back at them as Henry slid down her arm and into the pocket of her shorts to keep dry.
Red Tail made a large grunt noise and stormed off into the distance angrily.
“What did I do wrong?” Lilly shouted to Moggins.
“He hates the rain… it gets his moustache wet!” Moggins shouted back to her as the wind got even heavier, forcing Red Tail to almost fall over in front of them. This of course made everyone else laugh.
Just as they all caught up to Red Tail the rain stopped and the wind vanished in an instant.
“It… stopped?” Moggins said as if confused.
“It’s just a climate storm, all day every day of the year that part of the world is a storm.” Lilly replied, hopefully explaining the sudden stop. Henry came back out of Lilly’s pocket and held onto her shoulder again, Red Tail however was stood soaking wet hunched forward searching through his backpack.
“WHERE IS IT!?” he shouted in his usual angry tone.
“Is he always angry?” Henry asked, jumping every time Red Tail grunted and snarled as he still couldn’t find whatever he was looking for.
“Only if he isn’t eating food.” Moggins replied, making Henry and Lilly laugh.
“Oh yes, it’s very funny” Red Tail said as he stood up and looked at the three of them. Moggins, Lilly and Henry just stood there in awe at what they were looking at; a very wet Red Tail. His moustache was dripping with water and his angry face just made him look stupid. What Red Tail didn’t realise however was that there was a leaf stuck to the top of his head, which made him look even more ridiculous. The three of them laughed for a short time, making Red Tail grunt even more as he searched through his backpack again.
“What are you looking for?” Moggins asked him.
“THE MAP!” he replied as he stood up and turned to face him with his hands waving around frantically. “I CAN’T FIND THE MAP!” he continued, sitting down on the floor and putting his head in his hands.
Moggins walked over to the backpack and took out the portal key. He pushed the button on the side and out popped the portal wizard.
“Hello again sir, how can I be of assistance?” he asked.
“Please could you make us another map of Glammoth? We lost the other one.” Moggins asked and within no time at all the portal wizard had drawn up another map.
“Here you go. Is there anything else I can do for you?” the portal wizard asked as it gave the map to Moggins.
“No thank you,” he replied and he popped back in the portal key. “See, easily solved. No need to get all mad.” Moggins said as he put the key in the backpack and held out the map for Red Tail to take. Red Tail snatched it off of him and stood up, put his backpack on and walked forward.
“This way!” He said in a stern voice.
“Where are we actually going?” Lilly asked as they followed him.
“See that building over there?” Red Tail said as he pointed not far in front of them, to a large white building with pillars and bay windows.
“The place that looks like a museum?” Moggins replied.
“The palace of enchantment.” Red Tail replied and Lilly and Henry’s eyes lit up. They looked at each other, took a short breathe and at the same time said, “Cool!”
