"I am so sick and tired of this!!!!" I yelled. I was so scared that it bubbled into rage and despite my throbbing ankle, I stomped over angrily toward the mystery man. "Who are you?!"
"I can't believe you couldn't tell before this," he said as he stepped closer. As he came into view I could clearly see that it was my good friend Jason.
"Jason?!" Karissa and I cried in incredulous unison.
"What in the world are you doing here?" Karissa asked.
He chuckled nervously. "Well I found this cool new thing online and drove up to show you guys."
"And you just HAD to wait until the darkest, stormiest night didn't you?" I said rolling my eyes. I was bitter because my face and ears were still red with anger and my ankle hurt worse by the minute.
"Um, yea, about that...you see the cool new thing I got is one of those reverse lighters like the one Dumbledore had in Harry Potter. You know, the one that puts out lights."
We both stared out him, mouths hanging wide open. Karissa was the first to speak. "Whoa! That's so cool, let me see!"
Even though I knew it would be fun gadget to play with, I was still angry. "But Jason, why in the world did you feel the need to scare the living daylights out of me! I twisted my ankle! And what did you do to Jared! It's one thing to mess with the lights but what was with all the screaming?"
He looked at me in confusion. "Screaming? And who is Jared? I turned the lights off in the hallway, but that's all. My plan was to cut out the lights and then flick them all back on at once when you guys got really scared. But my reverse lighter wouldn't work and you ran and so I had to run too, to find a new hiding place. The only time I used my toy is just know with the lamppost."
Now it was my turn to be confused.
