The scissors that Karissa held glimmered every time the lightning struck. I was horrified. I couldn't believe this was happening. You hear the stories and see the movies, but you never think it's going to be you.
And where did Jared go? He simply vanished into the dark hallway.
The darkness enveloped the entire building. I ran to grab the flashlight that I hid in the top of my dresser for when we lost power. But I never thought that I'd need it for a situation like this.
"What do we do next?" I questioned Karissa, but she just shrugged.
"We have to make a run for it... That's all we can do," she finally answered. "I'd rather take a chance by running rather than having that creep come in here."
"On 3?" I proposed. Karissa nodded. I counted down, "1 . . . 2 . . . 3!"
Karissa slammed the door open and we darted for the building's exit. We were making so much noise with our footsteps, but nothing could cover up the sound we heard next.
As we reached the front door, two screams filled the hallways. One male and one female.
I paused. Could it be Jared? I thought.
Karissa pulled my arm. "COME ON! We have to go!"
We pushed the doors open and made a run for it. But my mind lingered. What if it was Jared? And who was the second scream?
