Chapter 12 - Shattered MemoirsMature

The burned looking creature staggers closer at an accelerated pace, quickly closing the distance between Trevor and Katherine, as they step back to keep their distance.

Suddenly, another fiend makes it's way around the corner not far behind the first one.
This one has several knifes jutting out of it's body, here and there. This one seems to be much quicker and soon catches up with the first creature.

"Shit, we're gonna have to split up or these things will corner us both."

"Totally agree!"

The two bolt in opposite directions, down two different hallways that seem to go on forever.
Moonlight shines through the dusty, glazed over windows, creating odd rays of light, fluidly mixing with the stirred up dust being disturbed by the movement of their fleeting escape.

"How long does this hallway go...?" (panting a bit)

The hall finally ends and there are two smaller, adjoining hallways, leading to larger rooms.
Trevor chooses the one on the RIGHT, makes his way to the opposite end and takes a seat on a dusty, metal, office chair sitting next to a matching office desk to catch his breath and figure out what to do next.

"Finally!" (catching her breath)

Katherine makes her way down her hallway which also finally comes to an end with two smaller, adjoining hallways that lead to two larger chambers.
She chooses the LEFT one.

Trevor is sitting in the chair hunched over, catching his breath and running a hand through his hair in perplexion.
A shadow appears in the doorway.
The figure begins to slowly walk towards Trevor, in a calm and direct manner.

He sits up, ready to bolt to the other side of the room to escape from this potential threat.
The figure breaks out of the darkness and into the moonlight.
The figure is Katherine.

"Oh shit, it's you. Good to see you made it out of-"

"Shut UP. You LEFT me there. Like a coward. You are SO good at running away from your fuck ups aren't you? (nodding while speaking) So you like burning people in their sleep? Good people that cared for you...? How about your little brother? Think he deserved what you did to him? HUH...!?"

"Who the FUCK do you think you are? How do YOU know SHIT about me? Where did you hear that from? Who told you that shit? Hey, you're gonna fucking tell me... You HEAR me..?"

"You fucking IDIOT!. You fuck EVERYTHING up! Not one time have you ever done anything right, did any good in the world. Not like your brother. YOU should've burned. NOT HIM! He was the better one by FAR! Even your MOTHER knew that!!"

Trevor stands up, teeth clenched, hands tightened into fists.

(getting red faced and really, really pissed off)
"Okay, you really, REALLY need to just shut the FUCK up now! I don't know, who fucking told you ANY of this shit, but they're wrong. YOU'RE wrong! You don't know fucking SHIT about me!! UGGhhh!!!"

Trevor kicks the chair he was sitting on as hard as he can.
The chair goes flying across the room on it's wheels.

Katherine is leaning over on a dusty windowsill, catching her breath in the moonlight.
She touches the handkerchief wrapped around her head, checking for blood.
No blood on her finger tips.
She brushes some wild locks of hair out of her face amd back across her head.

She catches movement out of the corner of her eye in the door she just entered through moments earlier and shoots a quick gaze to identify it but can't as the figure is bathed in complete darkness.
The figure begins to walk slowly towards her.

"UGghh!! These things don't give UP..."

The figure steps into the beams of moonlight.
It's Trevor.
Trevor has this disgusted look on his face, scowling over his spectacles at Katherine.

"Whew! Glad you made it out of there... Those things back there, I've seen something like them. From this game I've been playing... They were-"

"SHUT, UP... Don't you ever shut up..? All you ever do is make noise and complain. Even your STEP DAD thinks so... Psshh!"

"EXCUSE me? What did you say? How do YOU know about my dad? How do think you know SHIT about me...!? No, hey, who the fuck told you anything about me?!? You BETTER fucking tell me you..."

"Have you ever looked into the eyes of someone as they die from blood loss? Do you think it's funny to stab someone to death because you're a fucking idiot...? Such a little mommas's girl... Huh...? HELLOOOooo!!"

"OOOHWWwww, motherfucker, you really DON'T wanna fucking go there. Who tha FUCK do you THINK you fucking ARE!?! You FUCK!!"

Katherine takes two quick steps forward and smacks Trevor across the face so hard that he stumbles backwards a few steps.

(holding his face)
"That's IT? You're not gonna stab me to death or laugh at me while I'm dying on the floor? You're so PATHETIC!! Ha! Do you know why your step daddy did those things to you? Cause your momma was- "

She lunges at Trevor and starts beating the shit out him wildly.

(Katherine)                                                                                                                                           "UUHHGGHH!! FUCK YOU!! I HATE YOUUUU!!!"

(standing in front of Trevor, head tilted, with a smirk, brows raised in a sarcastic manner)
"Did you know... That you're little brother, when he was burning alive in the house that you left him in... hmhm... That he was crying your name..? That he was calling you for help..? But you fucking left him, didn't you Trevor? You LEFT him...? You left-"

Trevor rushes forward and grabs Katherine by the neck with both hands, slowly tightening his grip, tears beginning to flow down his red cheeks, uncontrollable anger, rage and despair filling his face.
Teeth clenched and exposed in a grimace of hatred.
Katherine clutching his wrists.
Seemingly more to focus on him than to stop him from choking her.

"FUCKing... You... You don't know what they did... YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY DID TO US!!! UgHG!! AHHhh!!"

Trevor's eyes close as he is shaking with emotional overload.

Katherine is scratching, punching, smacking and screaming at Trevor as she beats the living shit out of him on top of him, both of them now on the floor.

For several moments she beats him relentlessly and furiously.
She beats him so much, she collapses over him, eyes closed, still working a punch in-between gusts of catching her breath.

"FUCK you. Kill you. I'll fucking kill you..!(through clenched teeth and panting breath)"

Trevor, sobbing, angry and bitter, hands clenched around Katherine's neck, slowly twisting, looks down in despair and anger. Eyes closed, lost in the what was said.
A few moments pass, then he slowly and gradually releases his grip on Katherine.

"Fuck you... But you're right... I... I need to pay... for what I've done. You're right. I AM a fuck up..."

"Jesus, fuck. I need to pay. I need to-"

He looks up and Katherine is gone.
Nowhere to be seen.
Trevor looks around wildly, trying to locate her.

"What the fuck is going on...? HEY!!! Where ARE you!?!"

Katherine, still panting and exhausted from beating the shit out of Trevor, takes a few more breaths and looks up, opening her eyes.
Trevor is gone.
Her hands are bloody, but there is no one else around, as she slowly surveys the entire room with her night eyes.

She raises a fist to her mouth, shaking with emotions, hatred, frustration, bitter anger, beads of sweat covering her forehead...

As she gradually calms down slightly, she gets up from off the floor.
She is dirty with soot and dust but right now she doesn't seem to care.
She doesn't even notice the dirt on her face right now, as she stands there in a state of shock, eyes wide, tracing hurried little patterns of frustrated anxiety across the cracked, dusty floor.

Out of the corner of her right eye, something shiny and glistening in a crack of moonlight catches her attention.
She turns first her eyes only in that general direction, then her head to match up and focus in on it.

She begins walking towards it.
Her boots clacking, echoing through eternity as she closes the distance.
She reaches it, stands hovering over it for a few moments.

It is a knife.
A shining, steel knife laying in the half shrouded corner of the room.
Staring at this knife, that seems more and more familiar to her as she takes in the details of it.
The curves, the grain of the steel, the wooden handle, it's two, metal holding pins, the partially serrated edge close to the handle, the sharp angular blade all the way to the tip...

It's the knife she stabbed her step father to death with, those years ago.
Her lips close together as a tiny smirk begins to slowly turn into a devilish grin.

She bends down slowly to pick it up...

Trevor gives up his search for Katherine in the room and begins to walk briskly to leave the room.
As he makes his way to the door, something glinting in the corner catches his attention out of the corner of his eye.

He changes direction and quickly reaches the shiny item in the corner of the room.
It's a brass lighter, with a military style emblem on the side.

He's seen this lighter before.
His dad's lighter. The one he got when he went to war.

Trevor bends down to pick it up.
Holds it in the moonlight for a couple of moments, fixated on it, then puts it in his pant pocket.
He turns to make his way to the door and exits the room.

The End
