One day, while I was walking down Main Street, on my way home from the Market Place, I saw him again, Arashi, that's his name, and I thought to myself, what is he doing here? And why is he is he holding that scroll? I decided to ask him, after all, how else will I find out?
"Arashi! Hey, Arashi!" I called as I ran over.
"Hmm... Oh hello, what are you doing here?" he said looking up at me.
"I was about to ask you the same thing! I was just coming home from the market, now it's your turn to tell me what you're doing!"
"Oh, I'm just trying to read this scroll..."
"Really! You can read?"
"Well, I used to be able to read, yes."
"Used to? You mean you can't anymore? Why?"
"Ummm...............Are you mocking me?"
"Huh? Why would I do something like that? Isn't that mean?"
"....Er, yes it is."
"Please tell me, how can some one not be able to read anymore. Did you forget how?"
"Please! I really want to know!"
"You are very dense aren't you?"
"Huh? What are you talking about?"
"Will you please kindly tell me why you can't read anymore?" at this point I was starting to become annoyed and I was already more than a little confused.
"OK. Fine. If you really haven't figured it out by now, I'll tell you. I'm blind."
"Wait! If you're blind, then how come you used to be able to read?"
"Well, I didn't used to be blind..."
"Huh? If you didn't used to be blind then why are you now?"
"Can we talk about this later? Somewhere else preferably." he sounded like he was becoming somewhat annoyed with me, I have no idea why though....
"Well we could go to my house and talk about it there, if you want."
"Alright fine." he sighed, which had the effect of causing me to become even more confused than I already was.
"Follow me! I will show you the way!" I said cheerfully.
"Oh! That's right you can't see, can you?"
"Most bind people can't...."
"Oh, so does that mean you can see?"
He sighed then, "No, it doesn't."
"Oh, OK then. You can....ummm...I know!" I handed him the about a fistful of my mid-calf length, light brown hair, "Hold onto this but don't pull on it!"
"OK, but what is it?"
"It's some of my hair!"
"But....um....if I hold onto it wont that be painful?"
"Silly! Thats why I told you not to pull it!"
"I see. Well, I'll do my best."
"Good! This way then!" I started off in the direction of my house, and he attempted to follow.
By the time we got to my house, I had determined that next time, I should just buy a rope.
"OK we're here!" I said opening the door. After we were inside I decided that now was the perfect time to ask, "So! Um....If you cant read anymore why do you have that scroll? Also how come you're blind if you didn't used to be?'
"Well thats rather a long story..."
"That's OK! I have lots of time!"
".....to make the story rather short, I offended an irritable, and somewhat childish mage."
"I walked by his house, while it was raining, and apparently somehow I disturbed his sleep. Because of this he cast a spell of blindness upon me, and after that, I was well, blind."
"OK, so then why do you have the scroll?"
"Well, thats also part of the story. You see, a less powerful mage felt that the offense I had given was not worthy of that level of punishment. So he gave me this scroll, and told me that if I could complete the mission on this scroll, I could have my eyesight back. Unfortunately, since I'm blind I can't read the scroll to figure out what the mission is."
"Oh! Well you could find some one else to read it for you."
'Why would they? I mean they have important stuff to do you know."
"So you already asked some one?"
"I've asked several people, most of them couldn't read either, and the ones that could were all to busy to help."
"Well, that wasn't very nice of them! If I could read very well, I would help you!"
"I'm sure that you would."
"Well we should start looking for some one to read you that scroll! Come on!" I suggested practically overflowing with happiness, after all I was finally getting to help some on with something important, and no one ever lets me help them with important things!
"Um...now I'm not sure of this or anything, but isn't it getting late?"
"Oh my! You're right it is late! Its dark outside already! Hmmm....well, you can stay here tonight and we'll find some one in the morning! I'll get some blankets!" I ran and grabbed some blankets off the shelf in my bedroom, then I came back, "Here you go!" I dumped the blankets on top of him then I skipped off to bed, happy as can be.
