Chapter Two: Angelina's Good Fortune

“Wow!” said Monique as she stabbed a square of tofu with her plastic fork and dipped it into some white rice.  “He really used the words ‘It’s a date’?”

            “Yep.  I couldn’t believe it!”

“You are so lucky!  I’m just going with Bobby.”

“But Bobby’s your boyfriend.  You’re always eager to spend time with him.”

“I guess you’re right but Corey is amazing!”

“I know!”  The girls squealed in unison and burst out laughing.

“Monique,” Angelina said, “Let’s eat our fortune cookies now.”

“Okay,” replied Monique.  She unwrapped hers and began eating before Angelina could even pick hers up off the table.   “Mine says: ‘Everything will come your way.’  All right!  Open yours.  Maybe it will reveal something about your future with Corey!”

“Oh please.  Let’s not get carried away here, okay?  Mine says: ‘Strike iron while hot.’”

“In other words,” said Monique, “Don’t wait.  Hm… I’ve got it!  Corey’s going to lean in for a kiss when he drops you off after the party and you should go for it!”

“I don’t know…I don’t want to get my hopes up, Monique.”

“You are hopeless.  You should think better of yourself.  You’re an amazing person.  I would know because I have known you since our diaper days.”

“But I’m not pretty enough for him.  Haven’t you seen the girls he has dated before?”

“Angelina, you are gorgeous!  Don’t ever let anyone, including yourself, make you think otherwise.  If Corey can’t see how beautiful you are then you don’t need him.  But I honestly can’t see why he wouldn’t be able to see.  I’m serious…you are great.”

Angelina and her best friend embraced each other.

“Thanks, Monique.  You always know how to make me feel better.”

“Any time!”

“Oh.  It’s getting dark now.  I’d better go.  I’ll see you later!”

“Knock him dead, girl!”

The End
