Chapter 1: Part I-Milly
"Milly! Luke's here!" Yeah, Dad, Like I haven't been ready for half an hour looking out the window as I wait for him to arrive. I run down the stairs 2 steps at a time and see him in the kitchen sat up at the breakfast bar, his head slightly forward so his hair is brushing over his eyes. He's absolutely gorgeous, that boy. He's got this honey gold brown hair, long eyelashes and and deep, brown eyes. He doesn't wear regulation school trousers, somehow he manages to get away with wearing black skinny jeans. His school bag is a grey rucksac, really dull and boring, not like mine. Mine a black and pink zig-zag striped shoulder bag, blinding and crazy just like me. The Uniform person is always on at me to change it, he says it gives teachers a headache. But I think that's me and Sarah talking, probably. Luke holds out his hand to me, and I take it. I'd like to kiss him, but Mum gets stressy at public signs of affection, even if we're not in public. Dad's not so bad, But Mum is so old-fashioned, it makes me feel ill.
Luke and I always walk together, ever since primary school. I used to walk with Sarah as well but when Luke and I started courting (get a load of me, using big words! Sarah's influence, I presume) she felt like a third wheel andstarted walking with Jaz and Merve. She says she misses walking with me, though, especially since going with the others means waking up a half hour earlier. But you'd never catch Sarah walking alone. Eve if she had to take a detour to the moon to walk with a friend she would.
I get to school and Bella, Frankie, Rosie and Ellie make a wall around me, and sort of push Luke out. He sighs, squeezes my hand then goes to talk to Matty and Jake. I miss him, once a bunch of squeeling girls surround you, you start to miss boys. Eventually I manage to get them to shut up long enough to say that we should go to the emo shelter. I don't know why it's called that, as all the actual emos hang out behind the hedge on the other side of the feild, smoking and cutting themselves or whatever it is they do. Anyway, it's really cool, the emo shelter. It's outside Music, Art, Media, PE theory and Maths, so it's close to a lot of my lessons, and is sheltered on all but one side, which has a small shed and the jutting out part of PE theory so it's mostly sheltered anyway. The roof is the weird plastic, and there are a bunch f benches and bins and stuff. It's always really warm because so many people hang out there besides us. Our clique is Bella, Frankie, Sarah, Jaz, Merve, Matty, Jake, Ben, Jamie, Ed, Luke, Rosie, Ellie, Dave,Tom and I.
