"I just don't know what to do." Jaina told Josh after telling him about the encounter with the archaeologist. She found that she could truth Josh with this kind of thing. He had actually listened to her and understood her more than anyone she knew. Perhaps he was indeed meant for her, or at least she was beginning to think so. She was indeed falling for him at last.
Today he had taken her on yet another date, and she was beginning to like hanging out with him. On each date, Josh always knew how to keep the conversation moving and interesting. There was never an awkward moment between the two. Jaina couldn't believe that she had missed all of this. And all for not giving him a decent chance.
"Listen," said Josh, after taking sip of his wine. "I don't want to tell you what to do, Jaina. That's up to you. But what I can do is give you the cons and pros of either decision.
"On one hand you can sell the company to Augustus and be done with the responsibilities and live a happy life. But what if this story turns out to be of worth. What if what the archaeologist had said is actually true? In my opinion you should wait and see."
"You're right." Jaina smiled and took a bit of her steak. She looked up and Josh. How could she had missed such a wonderful and caring man? she wondered. He was what she needed now. During the last few days that she had been with him, she had actually felt happy. She had smiled like she had not done in years.
"Those words makes me feel happy when coming from you." Said Josh. Jaine chuckled, giving him a joyful slap to his arm. Then there was a relaxing silence as both enjoyed their meals and listened to the soft and smooth music sounding the background.
"I'm sorry." Jaina apologized.
"For what?"
She cleaned her lips with a napkin and looked at Josh, staring at him for a few seconds. "Here we are, trying to enjoy our date and I come and talk you about work."
Josh waved a hand. "Bah, don't worry. If anything, I am thrilled that you trust me enough to tell me of these things."
Jaine smiled again. How greatful she was that she found Josh, or that he found her. Still, she has not been this happy since her last relationship. Then as she looked into his dark brown eyes, she felt sad, yet glad. She felt like she hadn't in a long time ago.
She placed a hand on top of his. When Josh looked at her, she locked gazes with him. There was no of way of helping it. She leaned foward, closing her eyes. And when their lips met, she held that position, enjoying every moment of the kiss. Before she got too far, she disengaged.
"I-I'm sorry." She said, nervously rolling her eyes and for no reason in particular, fixing her fork and spoon. "I don't know what came over me, I-"
Josh stopped her, by holding her hand. "It's ok." he said.
To end the now awkward moment, something dark swooshed by the window. Then a loud booming sound erupted in the distance, followed by a small sever quake of the earth. "What was that?" Jaina asked. Josh only shrugged as he stood.
The two ran outside, just in time to witness the disaster. Jaina couldn't tell what was exactly, since it was already dark. It crashed unto a nearby building, smashing right through it and flying through the night sky. There was no way of telling what it was. But it left the a huge whole on the building, vaporizing about a third of it. Many unfortunate people fell to their dooms. The screams and cries were heard clearly throughout the area.
Hours later, the neighborhood was pact with curious people, as the police arrive. Soon they formed a perimeter around the building to keep people away, while the rescue team marched inside to rescue the survivors.
Jaina and Josh watched from the cafe. They watched how the media arrived and everything was already recording live. Reporters were asking questions to anyone who bared witness to whatever it was that caused such a phenomenon.
"I guess the archaeologist was right after all." said Josh, still looking at the nearly destroyed building.
Jaina could only nod in response. Charles Allan was not kidding when he said he had unleashed evil upon the world. And to make things worse, this was not the only accident with such magnitude.
After Jaina got home, she saw the news. All around the world there had been massive craters caused by an unknown force. Some buildings and mountains were left with a giant hole much like the one she saw that night. Millions of people were being killed every day due to these incidents.
Now Jaina was convinced.
