We didn't dance for the rest of the party. We stayed by the fire and Annalise socialized with some more of my pack members. They liked her a lot which was a plus for me. I felt incredibly guilty for hurting her. But her scent and body was calling to my wolf. He wanted her badly.
I leaned over and kissed her shoulder.
"Are you ready to go back?" I asked and she nodded, her eyes tired.
We thanked the packs for letting us come and I held her hand on the way back, letting her wrap herself in a towel first. It was best for my wolf. My eyes would get drawn to her breasts and he would stir in agitation from his desire.
Before we went into the cabin, I pulled her to a stop.
"I'm sorry," I repeated for the tenth time.
She smiled a little. "Stop apologizing. It's okay. It's just a couple tiny bruises."
I shook my head. "No, you don't understand." I looked around and saw we were alone. I took her face in my hands gently and ran my thumb over her lips. "You're my mate, Annalise, and I injured you."
She stood on her toes and kissed me lightly on the lips. I kissed her back but she pulled away before we could go any further.
"Let's just go back to being careful, okay?" she whispered.
"Okay," I said immediately and she smiled.
We kept walking and she tilted her head.
"How did we get to the forest so fast?" she asked.
"Perks of being a werewolf," I answered. "Increased speed even if I'm in my human form."
"Sounds useful," she said.
I laughed, punching in our code. "And it saves a shit load on gas."
She laughed, too, but our smiles disappeared when the door opened.
It was chaos. All of Annalise's belongings were on the floor. Her shirts and pants were ripped apart and her underwear tacked on the wall for everyone to see. She immediately ran to them to take them down, her face brilliantly red. Closest to me was the picture of her and her father. The glass had been shattered but the picture itself undamaged.
Kelly was looking under Annalise's bed and Jamie was on the emergency phone. Suzanna wasn't bothering to help at all; she stayed on her bed reading that stupid handbook of hers.
"Pierre is on his way now," Jamie said as he hung up. "Did you find anything Kelly?"
Annalise finished stuffing her underwear into her dresser and looked at Kelly, too.
"Just a strange mark I don't recognize," she said and I moved the bed, tossing it.
My blood was boiling and it only got worse when I saw what the mark was. I started to growl and my nails grew.
"What is it?" Annalise asked, her eyes wide.
I tried to get my breathing under control.
"It's a curse," I said through clenched teeth.
"Of what?" she breathed, gripping my arm.
I put my arm around her. I didn't want to tell her the truth. Not until Pierre got here. This was going too far.
"I think it's time you think about going home," I whispered to her and she looked at me, her eyebrows brought together.
Before she could ask anything, the door opened and Pierre's jaw dropped.
"Everything's as we found it," Jamie said. "Only differences are that Annalise put her underwear back and Logan flipped the bed. Come look at this Pierre."
He looked at the mark and his fangs extended. He pulled out a small phone and dialed a number.
"Get every counselor, camper, and employee about by the lake right now," he snarled and hung up. "You five, come with me."
"I don't understand," Annalise said. "What kind of curse is it?"
Pierre looked at her sadly. "It's a curse of death, Annalise. You're going home tomorrow."
Her hands jumped to her mouth and I pulled her to me. I tried to think of who could want to do such a thing but I couldn't. I kept her close as we followed Pierre out to the lake. Everyone was making their way there, looking confused.
When everyone was assembled, he got a box and stood on it.
"A search will be done on each and every one of your cabins tonight," he said in a carrying voice. "Everyone will be subjected to personal searches. Do not argue."
"What happened?" someone called.
"One of our human campers found a death curse under her bed."
People gasped and whispered among each other. Annalise whimpered and I held her tighter.
"Counselors, please come up here and we will discuss the searches. No one leave. I will know if you do."
He got down from his box and Annalise hid her face in my shoulder. Kelly put a reassuring hand on her back and I closed my eyes. I didn't want her to go home, not now. There was too much we still had to talk about. And when she came back with me, our time alone would be decreased rapidly.
Walter beckoned us but Annalise wouldn't move.
"Don't make me do this, Annalise," I whispered and she walked slowly. "Yes, Walter?"
"Follow me." We obeyed and he led us into the forest a little way. "All right. I talked it over with Pierre, and we won't send you home just yet, Annalise. You and Logan will be moving into the level I had created for you." He looked sad. "I don't know how much longer we can keep everything a secret, you two."
I sighed. "I was afraid you were going to say that. But, Walter, whoever did that had access to our room."
He nodded. "That's why Pierre is going to question all of your roommates and counselors; anyone who could get in there." He turned to Annalise. "Do you need to go lie down?"
"I don't want to go out there," she whispered. "Then they'll know it was me."
"Sweetheart, they're going to find out regardless," I said. "I'm positive Suzanna will tell at least one person. From there...."
"Suzanna Evergreen?" Walter asked and I nodded.
"She's one of our roommates and she hates Annalise."
He nodded slowly. "I'll make sure we definitely question her."
Footsteps announced Pierre's arrival. He reached out for Annalise but she shrank away. It would seem her fear of vamps had returned. Unfortunately, once again, it was warranted. I pressed my lips to the top of her head and rubbed her arm with my thumb.
"Did you explain everything?" he asked Walter who nodded. "The secretary is going to the office now to print out a report of everyone who has been in and out of that room in the last ten hours."
"What if it was a guest?" I asked.
"Each time you open the door, it's not just your DNA that's recorded. It senses the different amount of people that come in. Though we may not know the name of the guest, we will know how many were brought in by whichever camper."
I nodded and Annalise stared at the ground.
"Let's get you to your new cabin," Pierre sighed.
He led us back to cabin six. People were staring but I didn't care. I just wanted to get Annalise somewhere safe.
We went through the process of putting in the code, 6100, and giving it a sample of our DNA. The door clunked and Pierre hurried us inside. I looked aorund.
It was the same size as all the other cabins but, with only one bed, it looked larger. There were two dressers, a larger bathroom to accommodate the two of us, a reading area, and a small kitchen.
"Why the kitchen?" I asked.
"Honeymoon," he said simply. "We thought you guys would have done everything by now. Well, I'll go get your clothes."
I clenched my jaw. "Whoever did this shredded everything aside from her underwear. She can wear some of my clothes until we can get her more."
"Th-There's a picture," she said to Pierre. "It's me and my dad. Can I have it back, please?"
Pierre looked doubtful. "Let me look at it first, okay? I want to make sure they didn't do something to it." He sighed and pressed a button on one of the nightstands. A secret drawer popped open and inside were our cell phones. "This is a secret, you two. I originally put them in here because it was a convenient storage area, but now.... Call your mother when you get settled in, Annalise. Your phone has video chatting, right?"
"Okay. I'm going to send Walter back with your belongings. I'm sorry but we're going to have to search all of your things so it'll be a while. I don't want to risk anything getting in here. Logan, I'm going to put you in charge of helping Annalise explain things to her mom."
He left and Annalise dissolved into tears.
