"Marie, please make sure that Annalise's belongings are taken to cabin 6, level four," Pierre said to the woman behind the desk.
"Of course!" she said and hurried around.
My mom took her to the car and I walked behind Pierre. He smiled kindly and slowed down. He didn't really talk while we headed for the cabin. I looked down at the paper in my hands. I had four roommates.

"Are Jamie and Kelly Henry twins?" I asked and he looked encouraged by my question.
"Yes, they are," he said. "They're very kind. All of your roommates are."
"Where are the other humans?" I asked. "There aren't many cabins."
At this, he laughed a little. "Just wait," he said, "and you'll see."
I didn't know what he meant by that but we had reached cabin six. He lifted a screen protecting a key code box. He beckoned to me and I stood beside him. He punched in the code '6414' and a panel opened beside it.
"Put your hand on that panel," he said and I obeyed. "You'll feel a small prick. It is the panel getting your DNA sample. This is done with each camper. It is to keep others from interfering with your personal space."
"Okay," I mumbled and flinched when a sharp needle stuck my palm.
The pain passed quickly, though, and the screen flashed green. I looked at my palm. You couldn't even tell that something had pierced me. Pierre waited until we heard a strange clunk noise then he opened the door.
My roommates were all assembled at the foot of their beds.
To the left were two people who I knew immediately were the twins: they were identical down to the last strand of hair on their head. They even had the same hairstyles. Both of them stood with their backs straight and their heads bowed, arms flat against their sides.
To the right, a small young woman slowly showed her wings. She didn't look too excited about me being there. She fluttered her wings until she hovered off the ground then crossed her legs. She crossed her arms, putting a hand on each shoulder, and bowed her head.
On the end must be the werewolf. He stood with his back straight, too. His skin was the color of dark chocolate but his eyes were startling blue. His hair was black and wavy and, for some reason, I felt warmth in my stomach. Then I blushed a little when I realized I had been staring at him.
His salute was different. His right hand was in a fist and over his heart.
"Annalise, this is Jamie and Kelly," Pierre said, going to the vampire twins first. I hung back and he smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry. I forgot." He cleared his throat and went to the fairy, ignoring the twins' confused faces. "This is Suzanna. She, as you can see, is a fairy."
"Hi," I breathed but she kept her head bowed.
"And this statue is Logan," he finished with a hint of a laugh.
Logan bent at the waist then returned his arm to his side. His eyes slid to mine and I bit my lip.
"Hello," I whispered.
"Hello," he returned.
His voice was deep and sounded as if it began in his chest and forced itself out. I looked back at Pierre.
"This will be your bed," he said and pointed to the one beside Logan's. "I'll let you get acquainted while I finish some last minute details with your mother."
"Okay," I said.
He sighed and put a hand on my shoulder. He squeezed it and locked eyes with me.
"You are safe," he said in a quiet, but firm, voice.
I heard Suzanna scoff and I flushed. I nodded again and he smiled once more. When he left, everyone loosened up and the fairy hid her wings, standing normally. They all stared except for Logan who went back to unpacking. I noticed the cabin held eight beds and wondered why there were only five of us.
The first to approach me was Kelly. I backed away and she frowned.
"I'm not going to hurt you," she said. "Didn't you grow up around us?"
"No," I said. "I-I chose to be schooled traditionally.
Suzanna scoffed again. "Why? Afraid the scary vampires are going to kill you?"
I glared at her and Kelly's hands jumped to her mouth. I looked at her. She was on the verge of tears.
"What is it, Kelly?" her twin asked, coming over.
"When did it happen?" she asked. "Your father," she added when I still looked confused.
I pressed my lips together and turned my back on her. I put my bag on my bed and started unpacking my clothes. The other personal things I brought were still in the car. No one spoke and I sensed Kelly walk back to her bed.
"Here," Logan said suddenly, handing me something.
"What's this?" I asked.
"Schedule," he answered and looked at the door. "I'm supposed to be your guide but I've got a game to finish. When you're done getting settled in, I'll be at the basketball court."
He turned and left, typing something into another code box before exiting. I finished putting my clothes away but, before I could leave, Suzanna stepped in front of me. I blinked at her.
"Back off of Logan," she said and I frowned.
"He's mine," she said haughtily. Behind her, Kelly and Jamie rolled their eyes. "Besides, no human is good enough for a werewolf."
I didn't know what to say so I stepped around her and went to the door.
"Er... how does this work?" I asked but the only person to answer was Kelly.
I inched away from her but she didn't look insulted.
"You just put in the code to get into our part of the cabin," she explained and opened the screen protecting the keypad. "The code is 6414. You wait for the light to go green and you're good to go."
"Thanks," I said as the small light went from red to green.
She smiled, her fangs exposed, and I nearly ran outside the door. The basketball court wasn't far away and I folded up the schedule, putting it into my back pocket. I didn't see Logan among those watching so I assumed he was still finishing his game.
I was right and walked over timidly. He was very good. It definitely helped that he had to be at least 6 and a half feet tall. I watched as he expertly blocked a layup. When he saw me, he made a 'T' with his hands and pointed at someone. He jabbed his thumb over his shoulder and someone else ran onto the court.
"Go play babysitter," someone taunted and Logan rolled his eyes.
"Shove it, Drake," he said, pushing him. "Show some respect."
"She's a human," he sneered and I saw his fangs. Vampire. "She doesn't belong here."
"Come on," Logan said as if he didn't hear Drake's words. "We'll start at the other cabins."
