We are left in ashes.
The only noise is static from the radio and the crackle of the fire. The fire is silent as death; but in the darkness outside the trees seem to sway to the tempo of your heartbeat. THUMP-thumpthump. THUMP-thumpthump. Your blood pounds in your ears to the very same rhythm.
This is the tempo of fear.
The broadcast plays again on that same battery-powered radio. Static cuts in on the announcement, and you find yourself straining to hear the words.
"Electronic pulse.... Millions dead instantly... Virtually all electronics useless... Most men and women 50 or older seem to have survived... Those who had brain damage gained special powers... Children seem untouched... Beware the Changed."
Static takes over the broadcast again, just like every time those words cycle around. The announcer's last words just hang in the air.
Beware the Changed.
Nine out of ten kids between the age of puberty and 25 changed when the Zap hit. 99.9% of people from 25 to 55 died instantly. Only half of the elderly live. But only to become food for the changed. Somehow, the EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) clicked something in the brains of those who changed. They are no longer human.
The EMP, or the Zap, unlocked the primal instincts in the changed's brains, it turned them feral and gave them the blood-lust for human flesh. At first, some called them zombies, for what else could they be? They hunted their friends and family. However, that impression is wrong. They aren't dead. No, the changed are very much alive.
They are always there. They live, they breathe, they hunt. They seem to move in 'packs' that function almost like a wolf pack, and they capture those not changed. Then they eat them.
What's more terrifying, though, are the spared. The spared are more like a ticking time bomb. they are the rare 10% of young-adult that did not change. Yet. Months continue to pass and no one is sure yet why those who changed did or those who spared were. All we know is that our world has been left for ashes.
Technology is useless. The humans are being hunted. the changed are evolving -- they're growing stronger and smarter, and they've started to use weapons... guns... then they begin to kidnap the spared and keep them as pets.
Oh, and those spared? The small 10% of young-adults that didn't change? Some of them are starting to change now... after months of peace, they begin to snap.
Welcome! Feel free to Join in on the Collab! It is based off of my weebly Role-Play website at http://bloodred-ashes.weebly.com You do not have to be a member of ABR to contribute to the Collab, but it is suggested considering this will be a FanFic based off of the RP occurring on the site.
If you are from ABR and directed here from the link: Surprise my little minions! Feel free to add your charrie's story, but let's try and see if we can get this into a nice, polished book form. Love you all! ~ RapidDagz
