He unbuttoned his shirt and pulled on a plain black t-shirt. He tugged his jeans off and pulled the leathers on before putting the heavy boots on. He picked up the trench coat and shrugged it on. He walked past her and headed to the study.
She trailed after him again. He was stood in front of another wardrobe, which Beth had never noticed before. It was open and she could see everything inside it. On the inside of one of the doors hung all sorts of knives. There were all black and glittered with menace. On the inside of the other door there were guns. Inside the wardrobe itself there was ammunition, a variety of holsters and things that looked like they were used to clean the weapons.
Robert turned around after shutting the wardrobe. There were two guns at his hips and knives holstered against either side of his ribs. Another knife was strapped to his thigh and she didn’t know where else they were.
Despite all the weapons that adorned him, she threw herself at him, wrapping her arms around his neck. She pulled herself up, standing on her tiptoes, so she could kiss him.
She felt his lips respond to hers automatically and he wrapped his arms around her waist. Beth pressed herself against him. When she pulled away, she rested her head on his chest.
“Please be careful,” she whispered.
“I will,” he promised, kissing the top of her head.
She nodded and tightened her arms around his neck.
“Hey,” he said, tipping her head back so she had to look at him. “I’ve done this before.”
“Done what before?”
“A couple of years ago, Ez got caught by hunters. We had to launch a full frontal assault on their base to get him out.”
“Just... be careful. Please.”
“I will,” he smiled.
She could hear talking from downstairs.
“And here’s the happy family,” Robert murmured before kissing her softly.
He left the room and headed down the stairs. Beth followed.
Isabella was stood beside a man that looked the same as Aaralyn; his light brown hair highlighted with white and his eyes grey. This must be Jay.
“I’m sure we’ll find something to do later,” Isabella murmured, seductively, her eyes glittering.
“Parents, if you’ve finished drooling over each other,” said a voice Beth didn’t recognise.
She looked towards the source, her eyes settling on a man that appeared to be around twenty or so. His hair was blacker than Robert’s but had a flaming red around all the tips. And his eyes... His eyes were truly unsettling. His eyes were completely white, without even a pupil to break it up. They seemed to glow with malevolence and evil.
“Look away if you don’t like it, Lucius,” Isabella said to him.
“The image is ever imprinted onto my mind, Mother,” Lucius said.
