Robert watched her cautiously as she pushed at the ice cubes in her drink with her drink.
“You know, there are very unconventional uses for ice cubes,” he murmured, still watching her.
Beth looked up at him and blushed, her mouth dry.
“Care to show me?” she asked quietly.
Robert’s cheeky smile made an appearance. “Maybe when we get home.”
“Can we go home now then?” Beth asked hopefully.
“If you want to,” he said huskily.
She stood up quickly, causing Robert to chuckle and a few of the other customers to stare.
“Ever keen,” Robert whispered in her ear.
Beth was lying in Robert’s arms, the melted water from the ice cubes soaking into the mattress. Her body was still cold from where Robert had run the ice. She remembered the burning feeling when Robert had kissed the areas of freezing cold on her body.
“That was... fun,” she whispered.
Beth could tell he was smiling. “Hmm,” he said in agreement. He kissed her hair.
“Hungry?” he asked her.
“Are you?” she asked, looking up at him. She wasn’t talking about food.
He had a bemused expression on his face. “No,” he said eventually. “But I’ll have to go away one day this week.”
“Just for the day?”
“Maybe the night as well.”
Beth frowned. “Right, cook me some dinner, slave,” she commanded playfully.
“Yes, mistress,” he replied, rolling his eyes.
He slid out from under her and pulled on some sweatpants.
“I’d put on some clothes if I were you; don’t want to give the maids a heart attack,” he said quietly, leaning over to kiss her.
Beth laughed and kissed him. She sat up as he shut the door behind him. Clambering out of the bed, she pulled on some pyjama pants and a strappy top. Walking out into the living room, one of the maids was dusting. Beth hadn’t met this one. This one must be Alicia.
She smiled at Beth but didn’t say anything. Beth noticed the headphones in her ears and the iPod in her pocket. She smiled back and headed downstairs. Robert was talking to Colette in the kitchen.
“I can do that,” Colette was saying.
“I’m cooking dinner for my girlfriend, thank you very much, Colette,” Robert responded.
Girlfriend! Beth’s heart leapt with joy and excitement. She was grinning wildly as she entered the kitchen. She sat down at the breakfast bar. Robert leant over to kiss her.
“What do you want to eat?” he asked her.
“What is there?”
“Yes, please,” Beth said happily. Robert seemed to know all her favourite foods.
