“You can put your stuff into the wardrobe and the chest of drawers you know?” he said.
“I was tired last night.”
“You can also have a look in the library if you want.”
“Can we go and look now?” Beth asked, grinning.
Beth scrambled out of the bed quickly, making Robert laugh. She put her hands on her hips and raised an eyebrow at him. He just gave her a crooked smile. He was still sat in the bed so Beth ran over and pulled him up. Well, she tried to. He just tugged gently on her hands and she fell into his lap. She giggled childishly and put her hands on Robert's bare chest. Beth was more than aware that all either of them was wearing was their underwear.
Robert smiled as he ran his fingers through her hair. Beth wrapped her arms around his neck and leant against him. Robert was running his nails along her spine, making her shiver.
“Are we going to go down to the library then?” he whispered.
“I quite like it here to be honest,” Beth said, referring to her seat on Robert’s lap.
“I must say I agree.”
“Where did Isabella and Daniel go last night?” she asked.
“Home. They just wanted an excuse to leave us alone. They’re very pleased with you.”
Beth sat up so she could look at him. “Why?”
“Because I’m being agreeable. Which is a very rare occurrence.”
“And they think that’s because of me?”
“They know it’s because of you.”
Beth blushed and looked at him through her lashes. He kissed the top of her head and smiled.
“Library?” he asked.
“Yeah. Shall I put some more clothes on?”
His head tipped to the side slightly. “Why?”
“I won’t then.”
“Good,” he said, smiling playfully.
Beth climbed off Robert’s lap and sat on her side of the bed. She left the room, Robert not far behind. She stopped and looked at him, raising an eyebrow. He rolled his eyes at her and took her hand, leading her down the stairs. He opened a door and pushed it wide open, gesturing for Beth to enter first.
She stepped inside what was easily the largest room in the house. All along the walls were bookcases that reached floor to ceiling and smaller bookcases in the middle of the room.
“Wow,” she whispered.
“You can read any of the books in here if you want. Just be careful; most of them are older than I am. And, if you find a book about sex positions, that’s not mine; Isabella likes to plant them in here every so often and see how long it takes for me to find it.”
Beth’s eyebrows shot up. She hadn’t really expected him to say that. Ever. She shook her head and walked further into the room. She looked at the spines along one of the shelves. Most of them were in foreign languages, Latin seeming to be a majority. There was a very old edition of Pride and Prejudice on the shelves. Beth was instantly reminded of her love of the book as a child and ran her fingers gently down the spine.
“You can have that if you want,” Robert said from the other side of the room.
