Beth wanted to try something. She took her arms from around his neck and started undoing the buttons of her school blouse. She’d started on the third one before he grabbed her wrists and broke away from their kiss.
“Don’t, Beth, please. I can’t, I’m sorry,” Alex said with a look of pleading in his eyes.
“It’s not sex that I want, Alex,” she said quietly, her breath hitting his lips.
She flipped her hair out of the way and shrugged one of the arms of the blouse down her shoulder.
“No, Beth. It wouldn’t be right. I might...” Tears began forming in his eyes as he thought of what he might do to her.
Beth swallowed. “I don’t mind; I trust you. Go on.”
“Can I ask why exactly you’re so keen to do this?” he asked.
“I... can’t explain it.”
He looked at her for a moment, his head tipped to the side in thought. He released her wrists and sat there for a little longer, just watching her. Beth used her freed hands to push down the strap of her bra, leaving her shoulder completely free.
“It’ll hurt, you know? When a vampire attacks, victims usually die from shock before blood loss,” he informed her.
“I don’t care.” Alex still didn’t move any closer to her, though he didn’t move further away either. “Alex, if you don’t want to accept what I’m willing to give to you, just say so, okay?”
Alex didn’t say anything at all. The only thing he did was pull the bulk of her hair over the shoulder she wasn’t offering him. He moved closer to her, making her heart race with excitement and nervousness. He looked at her one last time. Beth closed her eyes and tipped her head back. His hand slid behind her neck to support her head as you would a baby.
Alex kissed her throat gently, as a way of reassuring her. Then he bit her. She gasped from the sharp pain, but that was all there was to it. It didn’t hurt at all. He’d probably been trying to scare her when he’d told her about the pain.
Beth felt her blood being taken away. Her fingers curled into his light brown hair, holding him to her. Pleasure swept through her like waves, all coming from the point in her neck where Alex had bitten her. Her chest was constricting, making it hard for her to breath. She lay down slowly, pulling Alex with her. Alex was kneeling above her, still drawing blood from the wound he’d created in her skin.
Beth’s phone buzzed and started playing a song, making them both jump. Alex sat up, pulling away from her neck. He got off her and rolled off the sofa onto the floor, breathing heavily, while Beth pulled out her phone and answered it.
“Hello?” she said breathlessly.
“Beth?" It was her father. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Have you and Alex been...?” he asked, hoping he wouldn’t have to say it.
“Ew, Dad, no. We’ve just been laughing at this thing on TV,” she lied.
“Hmm. Are you coming home tonight, or are you spending the night at Alex’s?” he asked.
“Um, one minute.” She looked at Alex, who was now sitting up and could probably hear the conversation.
“Up to you,” he whispered.
“Could you get in through my window?” Beth asked curiously.
Alex raised an eyebrow. “Of course.”
