Walking home with Allix was something I was not looking forward to. My mom was going to freaking kill me when she found out I spent all night with my boyfriend, which is something she didn't know about either. In fact, I'm pretty sure she didn't know about me being a soul shifter either, but I'd leave Allix to explain that one.
Once we got to the front porch steps of my house, I sighed. Mom's car...wasn't parked in the driveway. It's five o'clock, and she's usually back from work by now. Why isn't she back?
A chill ran down my spine, causing me to shiver.
"You smell scared," Allix said suddenly. "Why are you scared?"
"My mom," I said, goosebumps rising on my arms. "My mom isn't here." I gasped. My whole body felt like ice and I could barely contain my shivering.
Allix's eyes widdened, and he took off running. Before I could say anything, I collasped onto the ground. Blackness took over my vision as I fell unconscious.
When I woke up, I was back inside my house. Allix was beside me, with a solemn look in his eyes. He ran a hand through his orange hair and sighed.
"I'm sorry," he said, shaking his head. "I didn't make it there on time."
"What are you talking about?" Just then, my mom walked in and I screamed. Her eyes...they were nothing more than white orbs. Her pupils and irisis were gone. Her...her soul was gone.
"Mystery, come on! It's time for school!" the woman that use to be my mother said.
Her voice sounded the same, her body and physique and face was the same, but this wasn't my mother.
"What happened to her?" I asked, horrified at what I was seeing.
"Soul stealers," he answered, grinding his teeth. "They're horrible creatures who eat the souls of innocents and use the form of the stolen soul to battle soul shifters. They go after our loved ones and use their souls as a weakness against us." He looked over at the soulless woman who use to be my mom. "And it seems they're using your mother's soul as a weapon against you."
They took my mom?
I'm going to kill them!
