Chapter 6.mature

Recommend

After I get changed into my night stuff, I lay under my covers,
my hair still damp. I close my eyes and I'm soon off to another
dreamless slumber.

I wake to the smell of bacon and eggs. Hmm, Nalani is cooking.
I roll out of bed and quickly get changed into some baggy torn
blue jeans and a oversized red T-shirt.

I tie my hair into a loose ponytail and walk out of my bedroom,
past the lounge, and into the kitchen. Oh, the joys of being on
the bottom floor.

I sit down in my usual high kitchen stool next to Rob, who
still looks half asleep. He gives me a sleepy nod than shakes
his head, as if to wake him up before he talks. "Where were you
las-last night?" He asks inbetween yawns. I shrug.

"Had some stuff to take care of." I say, partly true; at least
I'm not lieing, just hiding the truth. Nalani puts the eggs and
bacon on separate plates and dishes them out, without her usual
witty comment.

Even before she catches my eye, I can tell she's annoyed.
Normally her blue eyes are sparkling and her pixie-like face
would be lite up by a huge smile but today Nalani isn't smiling
and her eyes aren't sparkling.

I shrug it off and digg in to my food.

"You were late in again last night. We waited up for you."
Nalani says, while putting the frying pan in the sink.

"Sorry 'bout that." I say with my mouth full.

"Sorry 'bout that? Sorry 'bout that! Me and Rob stayed up to
wait for yopu last night! You didn't leave a note or text or
anything! I was worried sick! Where the hell did you get to?
And don't you say just around like normal 'cause I'm losing
it here!" Nalani yells, becoming very red in the face.

Rob jumps, knocking over his coffee.

I roll my eyes. This is the reason why I wanted to live alone.
Shame I couldn't afford this place on my own otherwise I would
be.

"Hello you strange people. Oooh, bacon, don't mind if I do."
Rick sits down next to me and pulls his plate towards him,
before he could even get his forkful into his awaiting mouth
Nalani turns on him.

"Don't you start Rick Meadow! You got in late too! What's your
excuse this time?"

I swallow down my last forkful and smile as Nalani has a go at
her older brother.

I put the kettle on and get out the coffee things and my flask.

I walk out the kitchen mouthing 'good luck' to Rick who just
rolls his green eyes.

I open my bedroom door and pick up my baseball cap, putting it
on my head, and two of my blades, putting one in my boot and
another in my belt hole of my jeans.

I smile, knowing that they are well hidden from any creature.
Their biggest problems are to do with loosing their jobs or not
getting noticed by the opposite sex when they go out, dressed
to impress. It's laughable really.

Oh well, time to run some errands around town then it's time to
kick some werewolf butt! And, maybe, a vampire or twos.
