Beyond The City Walls
I sat still, seat belt strapped across my chest, suitcase on my lap,and staring out from the cab window, watching the crowds of people on the sidewalks pass bye.It shocked me,how all these people could go on with their lives so oblivious to the horrific things taking place in their own backyard.Well thats what propaganda does for you!
I'v never been so nervous in all my life. Here i was on my way out to the dead zone. Why they named it that, i do not know, It was thriving with life, just not the type you wanted to encounter. The world out side this city fortress was unpredictable and dangerous, with the wild life that lurked out there.
I could see the tall gates in the horizon and people seemed to slowly vanish the closer we got.The bustling city was now silent, except for the sound of distant guns blasting away. The cab driver pulled to the side of the road, looked back to me with this concerned face.He didnt even say a word.I unbuckled my seat belt, opened the door, and before i could even pay the man ,he drove off.
I was in no hurry to get there,so i just casually ambled my way down the street. They no longer looked like dots in my vision,I could now see the soldiers clearly gathered everywhere. The massive concrete gate stood tall infront of me,everytime i saw it i always wondered the same thing. Why so many guards, the thing was obviously impenatrable.
