Between the Stars and the Earth.
She opened her eyes and found herself in a new world... she looked around her, in each direction she saw endless plains and the sky above her rose in tones blues and pale yellow hues that cradled the warmth of the sun. She stood in awe... in all the years proceeding this she had never seen the pureness of creation... never breathed in the fresh scent of grass, the new breeze on her breath... she looked to the sky and hailed its beauty, she stood like this for what seemed like forever. She fell on her knees and touched her face to the earth, feeling the grass beneath, her face pressed into the earth and she desperately clung to it, fearful that in moments she would be stolen away from it...each breath could be her last breath, each earthly scent that she may never breath again, all sensations that the earth made against the flesh of her palms... this could be the last moment before she was eternally lost to the world. Rolling over onto her back she gazed at the darkening sky, and before her she raised her hands and looked at the marks that the grass had pressed into her skin, with the fingers of her right hand she traced her left palm... slowly moving around her fingers, smiling softly at the tickling sensation that it caused as she trailed her tips down to her soft palm. Through her fingers she saw the sky, she lay still and watched as the light of day slipped away into the darkness of the night. For the first time she gazed upon the florescent stars as they in turn watched her. She wondered if, amongst the many millions of people who had looked on the night sky, if any one of them had ever felt what she was feeling, sorrow. In the deepest chasm of her heart, she felt the deepest sorrow, she feared never seeing such still beauty again. She had lived in fear for so long and now she laid still without fear, she did not care that she was alone, nor that she was without shelter, she needn't worry about locking any door, there was no door to lock, between herself and the stars. She let her thoughts drift as her eyes to close gently and she embraced the night.
