“I fell down the stairs. I was coming downstairs and my dog, Tinkerbell went around me and I tripped over her. It’s no big deal,” I lied effortlessly.

She eyed me with suspicion but gave up when I offered no opportunity to pry. She began to teach. I began to relax.

My hand raised itself to the sore spot on my shoulder, the one she hadn’t seen. I caressed it absentmindedly.

I love you.
