Come on baby with me, were gonna fly away from here. Out of this curtained room and this hospital grey... we'll just disappear...
I love you to the moon and back.
Autumn drove to school today and barely said a word, we had barely spoken since she got the news... in fact she had barely done anything since she found out. She sat in her room with her headphones in and comfy sweatpants on since Saturday night when we found out the news, I was surprised that she got up this morning to go to school but I guess she had to talk to Ian and Ms. Collins, our cheer coach.
"So... have you talked to Ian?" I asked as calmly as I could.
"Kind of" She anwsered while clutching the steering wheel. "I told him that I had to tell him something important in person, and he wanted to come over immediatly but I told him no so that he wouldn't see my tear-struken face, messy hair, and sweats getup."
"I bet you looked a million times better than some of the people after they found out." I tried to compliment but then realized that probably wasn't the right thing to say.
"Did you know that I'm gonna loose my hair?" she squeaked. "I thought that was only for one type of cancer or something like that. NO! It's for everyone who's on chemo...." she trailed off looking chocked up. It was silent the rest of the way to school.
I walked into the courtyard to find my boyfriend Tyler who I hadn't seen all weekend and had promised that we were gonna spend the whole weekend together.
"Hey" I said as I walked up to him trying to smile.
"Oh... did you forget that we were suppost to be togther this weekend??? Let me guess something came up or and emergency cheer party you had to set up for... what's your excuse this time Amber?"
"Okay, look I get that your pissed, but yeah something did come up something serious which I was about to explain to you but if you're gonna be an asshole and treat me like crap, then I'll gladly leave now and have something come up where I never have to see you again." I rambled on upset.
His face softened. "I'm sorry babe, I have been being a jerk lately, it just seems like you've been avoiding me..."
"I promise I haven't been avoiding you, I've just been extremely busy... with games for cheer, and coach is really strict about grades this year, she wants all As and Bs, and then this thing happened this weekend... I'm sorry too."
"So are you gonna tell me what happened?"
I looked over my shouolder to see Autumn and her boyfriend Ian in a tight embrace and she looked like she had been crying.
"I really don't know if now is a good time, but I had a family emergency and it consumed my whole weekend."
The 1st bell rang indicating that it was time to go to first period: Cheer. Tyler interlocked his fingers into mine and walked me to the locker room before apologizing again and kissing me goodbye. As I watched him walk away I saw Ian dropping off Autumn and waited for her.
"Hi" she mumbled.
"Hey did you tell him, did everything go okay?"
"Yeah... it was really hard for both of us but he promised to come to my treatments with me and bring board games and stuff, but now I gotta tell someone all over again, someone who probably won't be so welcoming about it."
Coach Collins turned the corner.
"Coach, you gotta sec?" Autumn asked in a shacky voice.
