Scheming, wretched Women!
Wait!
No, I'm not going to go off on a misogynist tirade against the fairer sex. I'm scared to. Having read Zachadams and Baff's hilarious tale about Mervin the hypnotist's wife, I've encountered another first rate female charatcer who gets her bells off by being vicious.
First, as far as I have read, there was Bella Pleasance who pushed her parents off a cliff before embarking on a life full of morid disregard for anyone but herself. Then came along the housewife in "To those Who Inquire Politely" who proudly recounts how she kills her husband. Nanny on Rhododendron Drive secretly loathing her elderly employer. In fact, even the little girl who writes her 12 year old diary thinks more of chocolate bars than other's well being!
One common theme, despite these women's lack of remorse or compassion is the free-spirited candor and oft wit of their daily dealings. In all of these stories, we find ourselves rooting for these perfume wielding sociopaths! Another, is that most of these characters are molded by authours who are, indeed, women!
Is there some type of underlying sociological trend? Is this girl power gone wild or a suppressed passive aggressive need to bring out an inner succubus?
And why is it that these characters are so contagious? These are all stories that I follow quite closely and laugh more often than not. I shudder to think that one of these villainesses gets caught, or far worse, finds some type of moral compass!
I don't know. But, let's hear it for scheming, wretched women!
