Hi, my name is Kate. What am I saying? You’re a diary. You don’t need to know my name! I’m going mad. But I’ll tell you everything anyway: it’s not as if I have anyone else that I can tell. No one believes me.
The thing is, I’m seriously worried about this friend of mine. She’s my best friend and I’ve known her since I was just a toddler. Her name is Eleanor and she is one of the cleverer students in the school, as well as being super nice to go with it. But she has serious self-image issues. She is convinced that she is really ugly, although she’s not! I’m sure many people would agree with me on that one. I know for a fact that at least one of the boys has described her as “the prettiest girl in the class” - and that is high praise indeed, at our school. Recently, she’s been coming into school with all this new stuff: watches, jewellery - even phones (although I can not understand why she needs so many!). She won’t tell me where she got it, and I’m worried that she might have stolen it. I can’t see any reason for it but she’s not rich, and there’s no other explanation.
Why won’t she confide in me? We’ve always told each other everything.
I have to write this all down, although if she has been stealing it could easily be used as evidence. I don’t want to send her to jail, but it might be important.
