Mysterious Creatures

That night as Jameson was getting ready for bed, he heard a strange buzzing sound coming from inside his desk drawer. “That can’t be my cell phone, I just turned it off,” he mused aloud as he approached his desk with some trepidation. He yanked open the drawer and found Becca’s Razr vibrating within.

Jameson flipped open the flip-top phone and looked at the Caller ID. Blocked. He debated whether or not to pick up but then decided to go for it.

“Hello?”

“What are you doing answering my phone?”

“Becca,” he breathed, unable to contain his surprise. “Why weren’t you in class today? Are you sick?”

“No, I’m fine. Listen, I called to confirm for tomorrow night. You are still coming, right?”

“Yep, I’ll be there.”

“Six o’clock at Houdini Bar. Don’t be late.”

“I won’t,” he replied but she’d already hung up. He stayed holding the phone open in his palm for a long time, just staring at it. Why was she berating him for answering her phone if she was the one calling? Girls are such mysterious creatures…
