Stiffness blanketed the prairies, eerily quiet and still. I hesitantly gazed out my window.
Buddy, by chocolate lab/husky cross, was sitting at the foot of my bed. He was old, so he didn't come to snoop with me. Snoring could be heard from my father's bedroom.
"Think we have a problem?" I asked Buddy. "Usually cows are mooing, or coyotes are howling or something. Not even an owl."
Buddy blinked at me.
"What was that?" I asked in a hush. Buddy growled at the door. I saw shadows, I think. What should I do?
