INT. INNER CHAMBER - DAY
Indy carries the skull into the circular chamber. Mutt, Marion, Oxley, and Mac follow. They take in their surroundings.
It’s like nothing they’ve seen before. The chamber resembles a throne room with design elements of every time period and culture in human history.
Enthroned against the wall of the chamber are thirteen ALIEN FIGURES. Their long, crystalline bodies are unmoving, frozen in time. Twelve heads gaze downward at Indy and company.
Indy locates one headless figure and moves toward it. The others fall in step behind him.
The crystal skull glows blue-white as Indy lifts it toward the top of the figure.
Welcome home, old boy.
A gunshot cracks. Indy’s eyes widen.
Indy drops the skull and collapses. Spalko stands over him, smoking pistol in her hand.
The skull rolls to Spalko’s feet. She stabs it in the eye with her rapier and lifts it from the ground.
Three Russian troops flood the chamber, guns drawn. They surround Indy’s group and force them to raise their hands in surrender.
Thank you, Dr. Jones, but if anyone will gain the secrets of the skull, it will be I.
Mac creeps away from Marion and the others, and sidles next to Spalko.
Took you bloody long enough to get here.
Your beacons worked well. Thank you, Comrade McHale.
Mac, you did it again! You son of a--!!
Marion starts toward Mac, but a Russian guard pushes her back with his rifle.
He loved you like a brother!
You of all people ought to know what that’s worth, Love.
Marion pushes through the guard’s rifle and rushes to Indy’s side. His shirt is stained with blood.
Mutt looks on with interest.
Does it hurt?
I’ve seen better days.
Spalko carries the skull past Marion and Indy toward the headless alien.
Do not die too quickly, Dr. Jones. We would not want you to miss the ultimate Soviet victory.
Spalko lifts the skull toward the alien’s neck.
A switchblade slides from Mutt’s jacket sleeve into his hand. He releases the blade.
Spalko spins toward Mutt. Mutt hurls the knife at her.
Spalko spins out of the way. The knife embeds itself into the wall behind her.
Mutt elbows the nearest Russian. The guard doubles over and Mutt snatches his rifle.
Mayhem ensues and the Russian guards are taken out one by one. (I’ll get into more detail on this in a later edit).
Mac points his pistol at Mutt. He pulls the hammer back.
A crack and Indy’s bullwhip wraps around Mac’s wrist. Indy pulls the whip and swings Mac around just as he fires a shot.
Spalko is hit. She drops the skull and stumbles to the ground. Spalko dies.
Mac flees from the chamber.
The skull rolls to Oxley’s feet. He picks it up and looks into its eye sockets.
Oxley moves to Indy and Marion. He presses the skull into Indy’s hands.
Henry... You must be the one.
Indy nods. Oxley and Marion help Indy to his feet and walk him to the headless figure.
Indy places the skull on top of the figure. Indy, Marion, and Oxley step back.
Indy slumps to the floor.
Marion drops to her knees. She cradles Indy’s head.
(pointing at Mutt)
Make him go back to school.
Indy loses consciousness. Tears well in Marion’s eyes.
Jones? Jones? Don’t you dare, Jones! Don’t you dare! Not after all this time! Don’t you—
Marion breaks down.
Mutt goes to Marion. He places a hand on her shoulder.
The chamber begins to hum.
Oxley steps to the center of the chamber. He looks all around.
The walls of the chamber crumble and reveal walls of an alien design behind them.
It’s happening. It’s happening.
The thirteen alien figures spin about the room with increasing speed.
What are they? Spacemen?
Interdimensional beings, in point of fact.
As the aliens spin, they merge into each other into twelve figures...
...into ten figures...
The chamber stops spinning. A lone alien figure, fully fleshed out, sits before Indy’s group. It takes in the scene before it.
The alien gestures with a wave of its hand. Spalko rises and floats limply in front of the alien.
The alien considers Spalko.
The alien clenches its fist.
Spalko’s eyes ignite on fire. She explodes and disintegrates. Marion shrieks in surprise.
The alien gestures around the chamber. The Russian troops burn and explode in quick succession.
The alien moves toward Indy and Marion. It comes face to face with Marion.
Mutt steps toward the alien. Oxley grabs his elbow and stops him.
Mutt turns around. Oxley takes a knee.
Mutt kneels next to Oxley.
The alien waves its hand. Indy rises and floats before the alien.
Marion steps back toward Mutt and Oxley.
Oxley gets to his feet.
It’s time we departed.
He pulls Mutt to his feet. The chamber begins to hum.
There’s nothing more we can do for your father.
He pushes Mutt and Marion through the chamber entrance. Oxley exits as well.
Indy turns slowly as he floats in the center of the chamber. He is bathed in a bright blue-white light from above.
INT. TUNNEL – DAY
Oxley rushes through the old tunnel toward a dim light at the end.
Marion and Mutt are close on his heels.
Hurry! Hurry! We’re right under the river! This way!
Bits of debris fall from the ceiling all around them. Jets of water shoot in every direction.
Oxley, Marion, and Mutt hurry until they come to...
INT. VERTICAL SHAFT – DAY
Daylight shines in from the top of the shaft, but the walls are too slick to climb.
Behind them comes a deep rumbling. They turn around.
A wall of water rushes toward them.
Before they can brace themselves, the water slams Oxley, Marion, and Mutt against the walls of the shaft.
Marion catches Mutt by his jacket collar. Oxley grabs her free hand and pulls her in.
Water fills the shaft and floats the trio up through the shaft.
EXT. MOUNTAINTOP – DAY
A geyser of water spits out Oxley, Marion, and Mutt onto the mountain.
In the valley below, an Incan pyramid collapses as a huge sinkhole develops below it and around it.
Natural levees crumble and the river floods the valley.
A whirlpool forms in the basin.
A gigantic flying saucer emerges from the whirlpool.
Oxley, Marion, and Mutt watch with awe.
The saucer rises skyward trailing a waterspout behind it.
The saucer speeds off. The waterspout breaks up and falls like rain over everyone and everything.
Magnificent! Like a broom to their footprints.
Oxley’s smile fades. Marion slumps against a boulder and sobs.
Marion... Henry... He—
Don’t worry, luv. You won’t be apart for long.
Mac levels a pistol at them. He is draped in gold and jewels, stolen from the alien temple.
Oxley, Marion, and Mutt raise their hands.
Just a run of bad luck, really. But this’ll get me started, and our friends can’t have taken everything down there with them. I’ll be back for the rest of it.
Mac pulls back the hammer on the pistol.
Of course, I need to be sure no one else knows about it.
Marion and Mutt step back.
Before you proceed, sir, I think that you’d better look behind you.
You don’t honestly expect me—
A hand grabs Mac by the shoulder and turns him around.
It’s Indy. He rears back and punches Mac across the jaw.
Mac goes down on his backside.
Mac scrambles back. He points his pistol at Indy. Indy kicks it away.
Indy, what I said before, you know I was kidding, right? Come on! You and me! Double agents, right?
Indy grabs Mac’s collar. He pulls Mac to his feet.
Indy, I love you like a brother!
And I know what that’s worth... love.
Indy hits Mac in the face. Mac spins around and goes down for the count.
Way to go, Dad!
Marion rushes in and hugs Indy.
Oxley pats Indy on the back.
Welcome back, Henry.
Wait. You knew he was all right?
Of course! I told our benevolent host, ‘It was he who restored you.’
He replied, ‘He shall be restored.’
Indy ties Mac’s wrists behind his back.
And... he also showed me... everything.
Indy pulls Mac to his feet. He pushes him down the mountain.
The past... the future...
The others follow Indy down the mountain.
MARION and MUTT
You wouldn’t believe it.
