The decisionmature

......

I'd been finishing an English report when Mum came into the room.

"Eva, how would you like to move to Australia for a year?"
Honestly, that's exactly what she said.
I just sat there for a few seconds, trying to figure out if she was serious or not.
When I decided that the reason she was smiling was from anticipation and shock, instead of just smiling because she was trying not to laugh, I just nodded and said, "What gave you this idea?"
She smiled even more "...You remember Laura?"
I nodded in reply.Laura had been a really good friend of Mum's who she'd met through work. I had never met her but I had seen her on an episode of "Come dine with me". Laura had moved to Australia because after the show had been broadcast, It'd made her look like a bit of a @&*%*, and everyone had been really horrible to her. She wanted a fresh start, so she moved over here, to Melbourne with her husband and kids.

"...Well," Mum continued, "Laura says there's a job available at the school she's working at, and would I like to apply?"
"What did you say??" I said.
"I said I'd talk to you about it. Obviously if I got this job you'd be coming with me."
"I think it sounds amazing." I really did mean it. I'd hardly even had a chance to think about it, but I'd already decided. This would be a once-in-a-lifetime oppitunity, and we had a chance at it.
Mum looked at me warily "Do you think it's a good idea? If I applied-and got it-we'd be leaving our friends behind, we'd be leaving the house behind, your Dad..."
"Just for a year??" I asked.
"If you wanted to go, it'd just be the year, yes."
"Sold." I said. Obviously I'd miss my friends, and the pets, and of course I'd miss my Dad, but if it was just a year.... I'd have atleast another seventy. One year was nothing. Not to mention, I could learn so, so much from this. It'd mean leaving my school, and the curriculum would definitely be different in Australia, but just from the experience of being there, I knew I'd learn way more from one year in Australia to what I could ever learn years and years of school.

Thats how we decided.
