All Along the Watchtowermature
It sounded a lot like a car backfiring, except the noise was sharper and seemed to hang in the air. In hindsight, the bang didn't stop time or slow it down like I would've expected.
The man walking right in front of me fell down. He didn't stumble awkwardly or try to catch himself. His knees just gave up and the crumbled on top of his feet. I got close and reached, wanting to help and that’s when I noticed the blood. That’s when time slowed down for me, colours faded and sounds disappeared.
Everything came back like a punch to the gut with the second shot.
