Few people so much as even pretended to be happy at the sight of Alexander. Those who were polite were cold, and those who were mean were downright cruel. Yet Alexander knew they had a right to be. If ever there was a man who was prone to creating scandal wherever he went, it was Alexander Marcus Hale. And try as he might to prove that he had been changed, at least somewhat, it appeared that Alexander would never be fully accepted again. And he knew far better than to hope to ever be forgiven.

Unless, of course, Alexander would be willing to stand before everyone in church...
