Amelia's heart lifted when Quintus stepped into the room. And when her mother shot him a disgusted look and left, Amelia almost felt relieved.
Quintus looked a bit nervous.
"What is it, Quintus?" she asked, a look of concern in her eyes.
He shook his head. Amelia rested her hand on his arm.
"It's okay, Quintus. I know." she whispered.
He looked at her slightly relieved, but there was still a far away look in his eyes.
So Amelia grabbed his hand and lay there in silence, humming a song. After a while, she fell asleep. Quintus softly squeezed her hand and gently pulled his own own from her grasp. The door clicked softly behind him, and Amelia stirred softly in her sleep.
