In the morning I awoke, feeling the soft and cushy bed beneath me I remember where I am.
"Right," I say to no one in particular, "I've been kidnapped by the rich drakens."
I sigh and look up at the ceiling. Rolling over, I decide to get up and try to make breakfast when the faint lingering fragrance of bacon draws my sudden and intense attention. Getting dressed, I walk around the labyrinth of hallways attempting to find the source.
Unfortunately, I am unsuccessful. I end up in a room that looks like a library with towering shelves lined with books. Many are in other languages that I can't understand, but the ones that are in English I have an increased interest in.
I walk up to one book open on a podium in the middle of the library. On the open page he sees a picture of a human with a brand and then a dragon with a line connecting the two. "The draken that has control over the seven basic elements: fire, earth, water, air, spirit, sun, and moon. He may transform into a dragon of unique caliber. Let it be known that the draken must have finished his purpose in order to brand others."
"What are you doing?"
I turn and see Selena standing at the door.
"Oh, sorry, I got lost."
"Evidently," she replied as she walks toward me, "What did you read?"
"Just this book here, it's talking about how a draken turns into a dragon." I pause, "What does your dragon look like?"
"I'll show you today if you want, we have to start training anyways."
"Sure, I'd like that." Maybe you aren't as evil as I had thought.
Selena guides me through the puzzling corridors until she brings me to the kitchen where food has been prepared. There is bacon, along with other meats that I'm not to familiar with, which was a stretch considering at home I always ate oatmeal, bacon was a rarity. Before I eat I bow my head, a way of remembering my family, and Craig stares at me.
"What was that?"
"What was what?"
"You bowed you head? What's up with that?"
"Oh, its just something my family did."
"Oh, okay." He finishes, but I get the feeling he isn't satisfied with that answer.
After we finish breakfast Craig stands up and takes away our dishes and meanwhile Selena takes me outside to the backyard where I am stunned once again by the beauty and majesty of this house, grand and large as it is. The yard has shrubs and trees as far as the eye can see, there seems to be no end to her plot of land, and we only live on a little spot of it.
"Today we are going to learn about fire. Fire is the easiest element to learn." She sets herself aflame "Fire is passion! Fire is rage! Fire is lust! Fire is perpetual emotion!" As she says this she does acrobatics, showcasing the power of fire. "But, it must be reigned under control. If you do not master it, it will master you." As she says this she extinguishes herself. "Now, go deep into yourself, feel anger and attack me. Our training with fire is done when you have hit me once."
"Once? That's it?" I snicker, "This'll be easy."
I feel anger rise up within me and the color red radiates off me.
"No, stop." Selena calls, "No radiation. It increases the rate at which your brand disappears. You need to control the fire, control your anger."
A little ticked I attempt to reign in my anger. I extend my hand, unsure of what to do, and let fly a weak fireball. Selena simply holds out her hand, catches it, and absorbs it. For the next eight hours this goes on. My attempt to both reign in and explode my rage and her boredom at my meager results. But near the end I am able to do it easier, causing a faster rate of fire and a larger fireball.
Just then, Selena throws a fireball at me. I jumps and roll to the side as I fire at her. Now our duel is encompassing the entire yard. With us both doing acrobatics and running quickly while attempting to get a shot on the other. I got hit dozens of times, causing me pain from the burns which she would heal. But, in the end, I managed to hit her and win the challenge.
"Congratulations," she says, escorting me back to the mansion. "Today you have mastered fire. And more important you have mastered your own temper."
Anger rises up at the slight, but I push it down as my training dictates. Too much anger causes less time to complete my mission. "You forgot to show me your dragon."
She pauses, then turns toward me. "That's right, I had forgotten about that. Alright, stand back."
I take a few steps back as she hunches over. Her body begins to glow in an expanding, blinding light that dissipates soon after. I look up and see a large dragon before me. With red scales on her belly and black on her back. On her neck are four large horns and she is about as large as my family's house was wide. After I had seen enough a bright light appears again which shrinks until standing before me is Selena.
"That was so cool."
Selena smiles, "Glad you think so."
