A Thousand Years

Alecia's dog, Tiger has been around ever since he saved her eight years ago. While working on a history report, she finds out Tiger might not be an actual dog at all. And is he even really there to protect her? And who is this black cat that keeps showing up? One minute, he's a perfectly normal cat. The next, he's trying to kill Tiger. What's going on?

“Mom, MOM!!! Where are you?" Yelled a terrified little girl. She had bright blue eyes that were open wide in fear and fiery orange hair that caught the light from her flashlight. She had been running through the forest for hours, but she couldn't find her way home. She knew she should have stayed with her mom, but she had gotten distracted by the pretty pink flowers. It had been dark for about three hours now. She grabbed her flashlight and continued walking.

The girl was getting more and more scared by the minute. What if she never made it home? What if-? All of a sudden, she heard a rustle in the bushes. She remembered her mom talking to a man in a blue shirt with a badge about bears and mountain lions around here. She whimpered.

All of a sudden, a small tiger leapt out of the bushes.

"Ahhhh!" She cried out in fear and surprise, dropping her flashlight.

She picked it up again quickly and shone it directly at the animal. She quickly realized that it was not a tiger, but a dog. The dog was a golden brown with black stripes all over him and white paws and underbelly.

"Boy did you scare me!” She exclaimed, reaching her hand out to the dog. He sniffed it and pushed his nose into it gently, asking to be petted. “You sure do look like a tiger. I think that’s what I’ll call you. Would you like that?" She asked the dog. He wagged his tail and raised his ears, as if he was waiting for her to say something else.

"Tiger I'm lost and I can't find my way home. What will I do?" She started to cry.

The dog came and sat down right beside her as if they had been friends forever. He bit gently at her shirt and pulled her toward the bushes.

"Is that the way home?" She asked, walking in that direction. A couple minutes later, she saw lights moving around everywhere and people calling her name.

"Alecia, Alecia? Honey, we can't find her anywhere! We have been looking for six hours!" She recognized her mom's voice.

"Mom!" Alecia yelled. She ran toward her mom. Tiger stayed beside her the entire time.

"Oh Alecia you’re okay!" Her dad exclaimed, picking her up.

"How did you find us?" Her mom asked, relief in her voice.

"Tiger showed me."

"Dear, your invisible friends wouldn't have known where we are either." Her dad chuckled, looking at her.

"No dad Tiger. He's a dog. He led me here. See?" She twisted in her father’s arms and pointed down at Tiger.

"Oh my!" Her mom cried out in wonder, bending down. "Well thank you Tiger."

The dog looked at her and bowed its head before retreating back into the bushes.

The End
