Chapter 2

(Ren's POV)

Two years has already passed since I met Rena and other residents of Maple Island. I stepped forward towards foreign land and breathe the fresh air the land provided. So this is Victoria Island. It's exactly what the former adventurers back home told me. Rena walked away from me and said,

"I guess this is where we part."

"I guess so."

"Before I leave, can you promise me one thing?"

"Say it."

"You better not die until we reach the summit."

"I'm not planning to die, can you promise me the same thing?"

"Of course! After all, I'm am beat you there!"

"We'll see about that."

She waved goodbye and disappeared toward an unfamiliar area. Even though she can be a bit hot-headed and may not make the best decision, she certainly isn't weak. She did in fact   beat me in every single practice match with her. But instead of worrying about her, I should go to Ellinia, the town of fairies, to study to become a magician and see if I can uncover my lost memories.

(Rena's POV)

As I slowly walked the path to Kerning City, I thought about the last two years I spent with Ren. Our bond started off rocky since she doesn't seem to be willing to do so anyways, but each day she talks to me a little more each day. Before I knew it, I saw her as a little sister. However, when I am not around, she always seems hostile towards others. She has no friends at school and isn't very close with any adult either, including Mom and Dad. The only reason why Ren and I decided to travel separately is because Ren insisted. I was somewhat concerned about leaving her alone, but she was surprisingly very intelligent. I'm sure she make a great magician. Finally, I reached my destination, the town of thieves.

The were brick houses and many neon lights. Graffiti covered the walls and the people seemed to be either gangsters, runaways, or ninjas. One man approached me suddenly.  Quickly, I pulled out my dagger and held it right next to his neck.

"For a lady, you are pretty hot-tempered." the strange man said coolly.

"For a stranger, you are pretty creepy." I replied.

"Don't give me that, I'm only here to give you an invitation."

"An invitation? What is it?"

"It is an invitation to join the Dual Blades."

"Dual Blades? I never heard of them."

"Of course not. Dual Blades is a secret organization that works under cover to protect the world. Only few know about us."

"Then why did you guys pick me? I'm sure there are other people you can bother."

"Unfortunatly, there has been a decline of Explorers nowadays. Ever since news broke out that the Black Mage has been freed, citizens are getting more dependent on the current Maple Alliance. On other words, there are less people that have the will and potential to become a Dual Blade."

"Why only Explorers?"

"Well, the Heroes are all off doing, well heroic things. The Resistance are more focused on reclaiming their town, Edelstein, from the Black Wings, an organization supporting the Black Mage himself, plus they are pretty hard to get along with. The Cygnus Knights are devoted to the Empress of Ereve, so I doubt that they would join us. Anyways, will you join us or not?"

"What if I refuse?"

"Actually, you gonna have to join. We have to preserve our secrecy after all. Unless, if you want to be whacked with a hammer."

"Fine, I'll join your little group."

"Pleased to be your acquaintance. My name is Ryden."

"I'm Rena. Also, don't be polite with me unless you want my dagger to pierce into your skull. I've been in a bad mood ever since I met you."

The End
